Solid Steel (27th December) 2013 marked the 25th Anniversary of Solid Steel when Matt Black and Jon More from Coldcut started broadcasting together on pirate Kiss FM in 1988. It's been a year long celebration and we'd like to thank all the guests who have contributed incredible mixes throughout the year. To see off the year in style, we asked our listeners to vote for their favourite guest mix from the last 25 years and also their favourite mixes from our resident DJ's, with huge prizes up for grabs.

The guest mix you chose as your favourite from the last 25 years was Bonobo with his 'Directors Cut mix' of his Solid Steel Mix CD release "It came from the Sea", which was first broadcast on the 9th December 2005. It's his 2 hour version of the mix featuring tracks that didn't make the final cut including his own edit of Gang of Four and the brilliant Four Tet edit of Black Unity by Pharoah Saunders.

Up next it's your favourite mix from DK which was his 'Cymatic Frequencies' mix from the 21st January 2011. This was also his first solo AV mix and was packed full of musical highlights from 2010 and can be viewed here http://vimeo.com/19005861 Joy Orbison, Ramadanman and Maddslinky remixed by Toddla T all feature, alongside a Ninja Trio and a Big Dada double, plus James Blake, Caribou and Bassnectar.

Back in 2010, Gilles Peterson recorded a special Brownswood Basement show focusing on the evolution of drum & bass through the 90s and into the 00s. It was by no means a comprehensive history of the genre, but it did represent an excellent snapshot of the tunes that struck a chord with Gilles back then. 100% vinyl (and acetates), Gilles spent the best part of a day rummaging through hundreds of records and picked out around 40 then @alex-patchwork got deep in the mix. Part 1 dropped last week, and here is Part 2 that made up that show - no links, jingles or drops - just the music. We hope you enjoy it.

Solid Steel in association with Serato (13th November) This week on Solid Steel we feature the recent Radio 1 Essential Mix from Coldcut and DK, minus the talking and available to download. As part of the Ninja Tune 25th Anniversary, Matt Black said "We wanted to represent as many of the current Ninja Tune roster as possible and also throw a couple of classics from the archives into the mix, in addition to some influential and inspirational tracks" 
We start with the brand new single from Roots Manuva, plus music from Ninja Tune artists Romare, Beat Spacek, Bonobo, Machinedrum, an unreleased track from Illum Sphere and 'Glassbeadgames' by Martyn and Four Tet, with classic tracks from The Bug, Squarepusher remix for DJ Food, DJ Vadim and cLOUDDEAD remixed by Boards of Canada. Meanwhile Dream Continuum grab a cheeky sample of Coldcut's People Hold On and we hear the Eddie Kendricks track that lyrically inspired said tune. To coincide with the launch of the documentary celebrating the history of the legendary Mo' Wax Records, we asked one of our favourite Montreal DJs, Phil Larochelle, to dive into the back catalogue and record a session consisting of his all-time favourites. 

The imprint founded in 1992 by James Lavelle was home to the some of the forward-thinking genre-defying beats. From DJ Krush to DJ Shadow, Motorbass to Unkle, the label was a melting-pot of Jazz, Hip Hop, Breaks, Trip Hop, Electronica and whatever else artists felt like putting on a slice of wax.
