For the next Far Blue concept we have the first solo mix of one of the co-founders of Far Blue, abh:

'The foundation of this mix was put together during a 5 week trip traveling down Australia’s east coast, during which I started reading more of Rebecca Solnit’s ‘A field guide to getting lost’. I wrote down a couple of quotes about the concept of desire that she discusses, and one that stuck to me the most was the following:

"We treat desire as a problem to be solved, address what desire is for and focus on that something and how to acquire it rather than on the nature and the sensation of desire. Though often it is the distance between us and the object of desire that fills the space in between with the blue of longing. I wonder sometimes whether with a slight adjustment of perspective it could be cherished as a sensation on its own terms, since it is as inherent to the human condition as blue is to distance? If you can look across the distance without wanting to close it up, if you can own your longing in the same way that you can own the beauty of that blue that can never be possessed?”

This mix was put together with this this thought in mind. Like all my other mixes that I have recorded at home until now, this mix has no intention to be for the dance floor, but specifically for time spent alone. Which is when desire is most prominent.'

- 'But in this world we actually live in, distance ceases to be distance and to be blue when we arrive in it. The far becomes the near, and they are not the same place.'

A Far Blue concept by abh - 'Desire'

For over a decade @priebe has been carving his own space within Berlin’s underground house scene. Romantic, hazy, and melancholic, Priebe’s music is based on imagination and journey, romanticising things we all take for granted, such as nights out or walks through shopping malls.

Movements In An Empty Department Store is just that. An imaginary soundtrack for a night alone in a department store. Inspired by the fantasy of freely frolicking through abandoned isles and vacant storefronts, his inaugural album on Stólar is a surreal symphony of dream-like pads, echoey synth leads, and striped-back pulsing beats.

This follows a similar concept to that of his previous work. Released in 2022 on Chris Gruber and Tim Eder’s @feuilletonmusic, Apparent Calm Palms was Priebe’s interpretation of the journey from a small village to a rave in a neighbouring city.

Overall, Priebe creates a captivating melange of nostalgia and unfamiliarity in his music. It’s deep house, but not in the way we know it conventionally.

His imprint Stólar, through which he has released the majority of his catalogue, has a knack for recruiting label bosses and has seen the likes of @rdv-music lead @molly_music, and the previously mentioned Tim Eder & Fossar. grace its well-curated halls of obscure, exploratory house music.

Mixing deep, melodic, and minimal house music - with traces of dub techno here and there for effect - Priebe provides a groovy, atmospheric 4/4 focused mix that carries you through alternate sonic spaces.

The Bunker Podcast was started back in 2007 when barely any electronic music podcasts existed if you can imagine such a thing. This was pre-Soundcloud when file hosting was expensive and most people didn't understand how to publish an RSS feed, and portable digital recorder technology wasn't that advanced yet. In the early days, the podcast was made up entirely of sets recorded at The Bunker parties.  At some point artists went from being super excited that we wanted to put their sets online and knew how to do it, to being really squeamish about putting out "imperfect" sets recorded in a live context. So we more or less took some years off from podcasting sets. In recent years, we started releasing sets that weren't necessarily recorded at the party and the podcast picked up steam again. In any case, it's nice that The Bunker Podcast 200 is actually a recording from a party, and even nicer that it's brought to you by our long term resident DJ, Derek @plaslaiko.

artist statement: "This was recorded at a party thrown by the crew at WYA Chicago in early August, 2019. The party itself was incredible! Great sound in a perfect sized room filled with people that were completely going off! Can’t really ask for much more than that. I wanted this to be a Bunker Podcast because I think it’s a great example of how I strive to play every time. This one is a 3 hour long “storytelling” set covering house and techno and everything that falls between. Mostly new tracks with a few classics peppered in to push the buttons on a few of my friends who came out. I hope you enjoy listening to it, as I sure as hell had fun recording it."
