How did your musical journey begin? 

I have always been playing music. I started playing the drums when I was 8 and I started producing when I was 12.

You are best known for your hyper-rhythmic club edits. What is your typical creative process when reworking popular tracks?

My creative process is constantly changing. But sometimes I start by creating a bass, then adding drums. Usually I leave the shape of the composition almost in it’s original form. My process is extremely intuitive, and while working, I stay open to try out strange and playful ideas.

Why did you choose DJ G2G for your alias? 

There is no deeper meaning with my name. I have always been addicted to playing online videogames. When I’d play with someone, and  have to leave, I’d write “g2g”, which means “got to go”.

Your tracks have collectively racked up over a million streams on Soundcloud. How does it feel knowing that your music is finding a larger audience? 

I never expected my music to reach so many people. That in itself is amazing, but it is especially very touching for me to experience that I can inspire other queer, non-binary, and trans communities around the world with my music.

How has growing up in Copenhagen impacted you as an artist?

Growing up in Copenhagen gave me the possibility to graduate in Electronic Composition at The Danish Rhythmic Music Conservatory. This, along with touring across the world DJ’ing, has laid the foundation from which I produce and create music that focuses on genre-bending sounds with hybrids of many origins. When I started producing, I was very inspired by trance & techno artists based locally here in Copenhagen and nearby cities like Malmö and Berlin, but now I find my inspiration all over the world.

Biggest “pinch me” moment in your career thus far?

I’ve had a lot of unreal experiences at my shows, but playing last year at FINAL in Taipei, Taiwan, was an outstanding moment. I have never experienced such an energetic and generous crowd before. A magical synergy occurred that lasted throughout my whole set and it filled me with so much gratitude.

What is next for you?

I hope to collaborate with many of the artists i have connected with online and on my travels, while I continue touring / playing cute shows across the globe.

Evian Christ showcases the enormous sound of Trance Party

"This is a live recording of my set at the London edition of TranceParty10: El Gallinero, which took place at 3:30AM in Corsica Studios on Friday 26th May 2023. During the performance I used 3x Martin Atomic 3000 strobe lights (the old Xenon ones not the fake LED ones) with Scrollers and 2x LookSolutions Viper NT with Quick Fog Fluid (325088). The Atomic 3000s were set to high power mode, so as to draw the full 3KW advertised, and I ran the blinder effect pretty much constantly, using colours to express dynamics. I also ran the smoke pretty much constantly (this is the nice thing about quick fog fluid) and occasionally fired some 80cm handheld confetti cannons into the crowd. Usually I would use more strobe lights and smoke machines (and I would prefer to use a more powerful smoke machine) but this was probably the optimal use of the power available at this particular venue which is quite small. The set was recorded on 3x CDJ 2000NXS (I hate the 3000s) and one of those horrible DJM mixers (I would prefer to use a Xone:96 but it's off-brand for me, maybe now I'm on the cover of Mixmag I can use one). The biggest influences on my approach to DJing are probably Judge Jules and Total Freedom, I'm nowhere near as talented as either of them but stylistically I try to land somewhere in the middle."

Matthew Philpott-Jones, better known as DMVU, is an American dubstep producer and DJ based out of Denver. He is known for his songs "Bloccd", "The Acid is 2 Loud", and "Construction Yaper."

His musical influences are rooted in hip-hop and soul music with artists like Madlib, Dilla, Sam Cooke and Sarah Vaughn as well as dubstep producers Mala, Kahn and Skream. Weirdness plays a substanial role in DMVU's image and music and some of his weird heroes include Tom Waits, Sun Ra, Aphex Twin, and David Lynch
