Half generic sporting position, half incorrectly spelled American name you rarely hear in the UK (see also Troy and Chad), Leftwing & Kody have risen above these humble beginnings to become a youthful force. 

With releases for the likes of OFF Recordings, Anjunadeep (check 'Deep In' on  Anjunadeep 05 mixed by James Grant & Jody Wisternoff) and Exploited, they're as adept at swinging garage as they are with handling a floor wrecking vocal – the reason the likes of Azari & III and Romanthony have been lined up for remixes. Currently moving in what they call a 'darker' direction, their podcast features like-minded UK producers such as Jordan Peak and Darius Syrossian alongside Deetron and Curses.

Futureboogie open their 2015 account with this killer slab of sophisticated twisted disco from Lonely Boy, AKA Joshua Heath.  The Californian producer has a track record for finely crafted house music on labels like Miguel Migs’ Salted Music and the Inland Knights’ Drop Music.  His Lonely Boy moniker has yielded music for Culprit and Winding Road, and this FBR release comes backed with an epic remix from The Emperor Machine.

An ode to a love affair with the original vintage disco sounds, with its sophisticated bass and clean drums echoing shades of classic Prelude tunes of yesteryear, ‘I Like Disco’ is a spot on nod to the authentic sound that seemingly will never be out of fashion.  Its simple male rephrase reminds us just what we’re dealing with here, as the soft keys play call and response with that funky bass riff, and thick, rising pads create the drama.

The Emperor Machine rocks up on the remix, fresh from a period of intense activity, including albums for Southern Fired and the now defunct D.C. Recordings.  The former Bizarre Inc. and Chicken Lips has also been busy remixing the likes of Booka Shade, Erol Alkan and Daft Punk, so a real scoop to get him on Futureboogie.

Weighing in at over 10 minutes, the good Emperor builds a dub-tastic version, stretching out the good groove and bringing it back to the basics.  A playful remix with brain scrambling metallic flanging, stuttering bass, electro-funk synths and heaps of dubby delays, a monster of a remix!

‘The Subtle Frenzy’ continues the quality vibes with an arpeggio synth that works it way around your brain and moody pads and wonky keys that build the atmosphere a treat.  A monster electro-funk workout with a heavyweight growling bassline that continually pushes the track into a ‘subtle frenzy’.

Digital bonus track, ‘Take Your Time’ slows down the pace with an orgy of synthesizers and chugging beats, a perfect wind down/sunset/sunrise (circle where appropriate) moment!   A class cut that shows the versatility of Lonely Boy’s productions…

Every summer for the last 18 (!) years, MoMA PS1 has invited audiences to check out Warm Up, an outdoor music series presenting the best in underground, experimental music each Saturday, and 2015’s selection is looking unmissable. FACT have teamed up with the Warm Up crew to present a special series of mixes – one each week to coincide with the shows – so even if you’re nowhere near New York City, you can still enjoy this year’s lineup from afar.

The first installment of the series comes from a very special guest indeed – Merwyn Sanders of influential Chicago house pioneers Virgo Four (previously Virgo). The house troupe were pulled from obscurity five years ago when Rush Hour reissued their debut (and only) self-titled 1989 album, following it with a five-LP boxset Resurrection in 2011 that collected the rest of the band’s recordings. Much has been made of the resurgence of deep house in the last few years, but Virgo Four are the real deal.

Warm Up is every Saturday until September 5 at MoMA PS1, and if you need more information (including the excellent lineup) make sure you check the website immediately.

We'll freely admit the cold weather and the fact it's still not quite Christmas yet had begun to take its toll on us here at DT towers but luckily Tim B and Den Ishu were on hand to cure our chronic case of SAD with an hour long mix of super sexy, infectious house music that's pure summertime.

Zimmer - Cinematic | September Tape

Back to Basics is one of the longest running club events in the world, based in our home city of Leeds. The club has had a huge influence on us over the years, particularly in our early days when we could be found there on many a weekend immersing ourselves in their sounds. Our debut in 2007 is still one of our proudest moments as DJs. They’ve found a great new home at The Garage and it’s always an honour to play for them.
