PREMIERE – Sid Le Rock – Crisis Hotline (Colossio Remix) (Play pal Music)

As the summer draws to a close and the nights begin to grow darker, we end our hiatus to bring you longtime friend of the label and a producer we admire, Canada's very own, Sid Le Rock, with a little help from two of Mexico's hottest production talents respectively: Cabizbajo and Colossio, who place their own unique stamp on Sid's latest EP ' Strutline Crisis'.

The title track certainly struts it's stuff, subtly sawing its way through the 'strutosphere' with melodic atmospherics that give way to chimes which decorate the sonic landscape.

'Crisis Hotline' keeps the atmosphere but ramps up the tension with whispered vocal stabs, which punctuate an urgent siren like bassline, which is the hallmark of the track.

Cabizbajo's interpretation of 'Strut Your Stuff' ups the pace from the original with 'machine gun' drum fills before hypnotic cowbells leave the track descending into tribal debauchery.

Finally, Colossio's reworking completes the release by bringing a pulsating and persistent acid laden builder, to close out the EP in the darkest but grooviest way possible.

Ackerman's debut EP on Play Pal opens with the high-octane title track, "More & Faster" a dynamic mix of mid-paced percussion, syncopated arpeggios, robotic vocals, and sharp snares.

Next up is "Time Machine," a moody, synth-driven track that offers psychedelic dark grooves, punctuated by stuttering vocals and 303s. Meanwhile, "Can We Rewind Time" stomps forward with a heavy bassline and pulsating sound waves, building to a fiery climax.

Adding depth to the release are label friends and frequent Play Pal contributors Mufti, Leonor and TYU, each bringing their unique stamps to the originals.

Mufti’s rework of "More & Faster" strips back the original, retaining the hypnotic mantra, while adding new layered synth lines that heighten the tension throughout the track. Leonor’s darker take on "Time Machine" introduces a menacing funk, complete with a tempo-slowing breakdown before the latin vocal (a personal addition of his), kicks back in with force.

TYU rounds off Ackerman's kinetic collection with his signature blend of percussive acid bubbling, congas, and 303s, delivering an electrifying finish to the EP.

We welcome 2025 with the first EP of the year from Side Up Works, SUW036, a vibrant collaboration between Ludviq and Nick Hanzo. "Pandemonium," featuring das mokuleien, opens with hypnotic rhythms and energizing sonic layers, while "Furry Goblin" takes us to a playful and experimental territory, with immersive textures and an irresistible groove.

The remixes bring even more magic: Poulper gives "Pandemonium" an ethereal and dreamlike touch, Teniente Castillo transforms "Furry Goblin" with an intense, dark groove, and ID_UA offers a minimalist reinterpretation that highlights the finest details.
