Fast. Impulsive. Techno. Three words to establish and define what the artist known as Egotot is all about. The young musician, hailing from the deep south of Germany, sets quite the pace when it comes to his vision of electronic music, regarding both tempo as well as quality. His
beats, be in the studio or in the DJ booth, appear to come and arrange themselves seemingly with no effort. A Rave-infected sonic testing ground without ever feeling like a simple Rave pastiche.

A vision of Techno that is obviously inspired by its sound of the 90s, but neither exceedingly aggressive, nor excessively happy. Egotot has a special taste for rugged, up-tempo grooves which demand their own time to breathe and reveal their power. A sonic all-purpose weapon to
be used on, for, and by the dance floor. 

However, his sense for music doesn’t stop at the edge of dancefloor-oriented Rave. It goes far beyond, right to and through the sometimes more and sometimes less subtle tides of electronic music. This exemplarily reflects in his very own imprint, Schimmer Records, which he founded in 2019. The label has, in a rather short period of time, already evolved to a sonic reservoir of all different shades, all of which share a commonality – quality in production, love to detail, and an
undeniable appeal to avid devotees of electronic music of all kinds.

There is nothing confusing about Egotot’s take on music. It is clean-cut, it is straightforward, it is always effective. The Industrial clout, the fast groove, the merciless rigor – this is how Techno should sound in the 21st century, and Egotot is its perfect avatar.

Where to start with @ancient-methods . . . .

I remember back in 2007 after a trip to Hardwax I came back with several coloured 12's with not a great deal on them bar Ancient Methods and 1st, 2nd & 3rd Method on the labels. Upon listening I was immediately hooked and thought at the time this was the most exciting music I had heard coming out of Berlin for quite a while. Fast forward 2 years and the duo (as they were at the time) were on their way to London to play at our 3rd birthday with a load of other Hardwax related artists. Unfortunately they never got to play that set as a couple of nasty chancer thieves literally stole their laptops off the stage before they performed, never to be seen again. The worst thing about this situation was the fact that they both backed up to each other's laptops for their productions which meant a lot of unreleased WIP music was forever lost that morning. 

Needless to say we felt awful but made it as right as we could by giving the profit we made on the night straight to them (along with their fee of course) and Corsica also chipped in a sizeable donation so they were immediately able to buy replacement laptops but it still wrangles me to this day all that lost AM material.

It was however the start of a very long standing relationship between AM & Plex. Michael (bar residents) was the artist that played the most times at our parties  over the years and it became pretty much an annual tradition from our 5th birthday onwards that you would get an Ancient Methods live, dj or hybrid show. He remains a great friend of ours to this day so it's fantastic to finally get one of his sets from Plex out there.

This set is from our 9th birthday and is a really special 90 min journey. Hope you guys like.

Description:

Re-issue of A Thunder Orchestra's 'Shall I Do It?', a haunting yet beautiful slice of hypnotic proto techno from the vaults of the rich eighties Belgian new beat / synth wave / EBM noir scene, written and recorded by Dirk Desaever (aka Danton's Voice & White House White) in 1985 and released on a handful of cassette tapes only. Re-discovered by Walhalla records and included on their 'Underground Wave Volume 4' compilation in 2014, now re-mastered and available on 12'' format for the first time ever. Things started to move when label boss Paul du Lac heard this gem being played by Germany's finest, Mick Wills, in one of his trademark epic dj-sets, with the pounding drums, haunting synths and the eerie kid's voice making him fall in love at the spot. It turned out Mick didn't play the original, but, like so often, his own re-edited version: slightly pitched, extended and re-constructed in an utterly brilliant way, perfectly suiting the darkest hours of the night. Eventually, intrigued as the label was with the song and being a big fan of mr. Will's editing craftsmanship, one thing led to the other, and Bio Rhythm is now proud to officially present the original A Thunder Orchestra's 'Shall I Do It?' in the full glory it deserves, including two reconstructed versions by Mick Wills, one that starts with the intro just like the original and a special beat version for even more convenient dj use. Filippo Blasi Foglietti returns to Third Ear for his second release, The Copy Principle, following his well-received debut, the John Nixon Memorial ep. DJs, notably Ellen Allien and Peter Van Hoesen, and many others continue to play this deep and trippy record. The Copy Principle is more urgent, more stripped back proposition than John Nixon Memorial ep, but is identifiably Filippo Blasi Foglietti, at his deep and trippy best.

The Copy Principle is one of Scottish philosopher David Hume’s best known ideas. Hume (born 1711, died 1776) states that our ideas come from our impressions. He wrote; "All our simple ideas in their first appearance are deriv'd from simple impressions, which are correspondent to them, and which they exactly represent”

Nick Sinna has been on the radars lately with his debut release for Prime Numbers "PN 13".  Sticking to the dark corners of the dance floor as of late, we've commissioned the spaced out bass child, Conforce and Spectral's secret weapon, James T Cotton to add their touch with edits on 2 of the tracks. 

Conforce takes Sinna's "Real Time" further down the worm hole, adding molten pressure to the percussion, and cutting up the vocal to reinforce "time seems to feel more slow"; while the acid warrior himself, James T Cotton stays true to his roots on his rework of "Voyager", taking the edge off the snap and slicking the groove down to a more deep, melodic trip.

For this mix I wanted to do the complete opposite of how I DJ in a club. Normally I play three or four tracks at once, layering sounds and loops with them and cutting between them very quickly and aggressively. Here I am letting the tracks almost play out in full and taking a calmer, more relaxed approach. The tracks themselves range from music from Stephen Mallinder's debut solo LP Pow Wow from back in 1982 to upfront promos I've received in the last few days, there is some deeper techno but it is mainly melodic and atmospheric tracks.
