And distant, actually; Stede had expected that gorgeous voice to draw nearer, to grow as Ed walked toward the kitchen, too. But it was distant. It sounded as though he was still in their bedroom.

“Thought I could make us both breakfast!” Stede called back, before startling a bit at a zing on his finger. Another fruit-induced nick—damn. “Or, ah, try to, at least.”

He waited for Ed to appear then; marmalade and tea were something of a siren song to him, what with being nearly as sweet as he.
