James Patrick’s newest EP Helium Node is an excellent variety of electronic music that hovers around a central theme of IDM. JP is no stranger to IDM, and demonstrates a fresh take with each tune on the collection. With catchy bass patches flushes out with gorgeous harmonious and driving percussion, he delivers a great array of tunes that demonstrate his skills.
 
The title track is a blend of multiple atmospheres that are simultaneously lush and velvety blended with a dark, crisp, and irresistible lead. It bumps while also invoking deeper moods with tripped out harmonies and background arpeggiators. Brookdale Cops showcases excellent filter work with vibrant and robust bass lines, as well as being driven by an intense percussion section and robotic vocal chops. The pads that hug the tune are akin to cruising along a coastal synthy sunset.

With Hardly Willis, James explores a more experimental side of music as he brings us a breakbeat style rhythm in a field of IDM-inspired sound design. This tune is reminiscent of the origins of modern electronic music while also retaining freshness and identity. Finally, Conduit’s remix of the title track closes the EP with his blend of fast gates and voiced, juicy synthesizers wrapped around a fat hip-hop beat. The song will dip into melody in one moment and then find itself leaning towards neuro in the next.

Both James Patrick and Conduit together manage The Great Magnet label based out of Minneapolis, and together on this release they showcase an array of styles the homegrown experimental label has released to date.

Had the pleasure of catching his recent set at Infrasound Equinox this past September and we couldn't be more thrilled to have him through to do a mix for the series! 

"I was beyond excited to curate this mix following an inspiring summer of epic gigs and releasing tons of new music. After spending some quality time with Cody [Heisty / Co-Founder of Sublimate] and showing off my sound, it was decided that this mix was forthcoming.                   "Harbinger" 
   -A Christmas odyssey through time and space, capturing the essence of the season. This track represents a couple of Concepts. The Birth of Jesus on Christmas Day, and also a tribute to our Moons largest mountain range, Montes Apenninus, symbolizing limitless possibilities and spiritual awakening. 
    -Inspired by "Raja Ram Mohan Roy", a pioneer of the Indian Renaissance. A true Harbinger who brought western culture to India. This song is also about embracing transformation and cultural connection. 
    -Influenced by the sounds of Shpongle, a project i've always been so inspired by. Did my best to match that vibe with what I know and create something different. 
    -"Harbinger" bridges East and West, earth and sky, past and future.

This week's guests are Keota and K.L.O In this episode, we break down how each of them got started with music—from Keota diving into electronic production at 15 “as a joke” to K.L.O's obsession with turntablism. They also share the story of their first performances, their biggest festival inspirations (like that legendary infrasound “swamp” year), and the gear and techniques that define their signature sounds.

We get candid about the music industry, talking pay transparency, headliner vs. opener fees, and how Keota once organized a show where everyone anonymously voted on how to split the entire budget. K.L.O updates us on his longtime collaborator Mike (Osmetic) from Colony Productions—who’s currently recovering from a serious medical procedure—and how their community is coming together to support him.

Special St. Patricks Day Transmission-Cast 91- DARK VELVET

I'm proud to present you with the minimix for my forthcoming EP, "The Waiting Room". This a collection of uptempo/dancefloor songs I created while I was dealing with a personal predicament, that left me waiting to get back to a normal life without a certain authority following my every movement. It has been extremely interesting to explore the depths of my creativity and see what kind of sounds I would create in such raw state of mentality.
