Isotonic's 'B.A.S.I.C.S' Chart (April 2015)

A DJ/producer, multi-instrumentalist and sound engineer, Alexkid is credited as an early protagonist of 90s Parisian underground culture. Ignited by no less than three critically acclaimed albums on Laurent Garniers F Communications, and cemented by his Rex Club residency of four years, having been invited to the very same club where he had been clubbing for the past 25 years.This, matched with selected releases and remixes on some of the most highly regarded electronic music labels, have solidified Alexkids reputation in every corner of the world. Stripped back, dubby and a sometimes borderline obscure, Alex constructs atmospheric narratives  manoeuvring just as easily through a live set-up as a vinyl session. It is hard to believe it has been 14 years since Alexs debut Ovum release On My Mind.  Alex has returned with a new mature sound that will tear up dance floors this summer!  The Avocado EP (an inside joke between Alex and Josh Wink), is crunchy, rocking, tech funk.  The lead track The Dope is pure funked out techy deepness. A great example that minimal can be maximal with throbbing twitches and tweaks that keep things grooving.For the B, Alex brings us For Josh.  A dedication to our fearless leader Josh Wink, we see Alex taking us on a journey.  The funk is still here, but this track is definitely for the heads and set to soundtrack sun rises throughout the summer. Bravo Alex and welcome back!

2014 has been a vintage year for Poker Flat. Now celebrating its 15th birthday, Steve Bug's label has lost none of its verve, devotion, depth and magic. Cherry-picked from an array of stellar underground releases, each track on this compilation epitomises the dark, minimal, technically accomplished house that has made Poker Flat a byword for quality.

Bug himself contributes two highlights - the brittle, hypnotic 'Pelican Glide' and the skilfully layered 'The Arpeggio', smouldering with latent menace - while Vince Watson is also represented by two outstanding tracks, the pulsing, bassy 'Sonar' and 'Paradise': a showcase in how to combine contrasting elements with its feather-light repetitions married to subaquatic bass. 

Elsewhere Mark Henning dishes up the deep, sinuous funk of 'Mad Half Hour', Carlos Sanchez gives us the reverberating groove of 'Conclution' and Mihai Popoviciu doffs his hat to early house for the deep jack of 'Time'. With Marco Resmann's 'Basic Motion' and two versions of Alex Niggemann's 'Materium' - the deep, unorthodoxly-structured original and Ripperton's expansive big room re-work - it's a collection that perfectly encapsulates a memorable year.

We're delighted to welcome back Amount, aka Nayan Soukie, to Darkroom Dubs as he returns with four subterranean throbbers that effervesce with trance-inducing lawlessness. 

A Darkroom Dubs favourite who first debuted in 2013 as one-half of house-combo Soukie & Windish. Since then, he's flourished as a renowned producer, DJ, and seasoned live performer, developing a penchant for sleazy burners primed for the darkest of rooms and those hazy, sunrise-lit, after-hours moments. 

This latest offering from the Berlin native, entitled Zeroton, is an essential addition to an already impressive back catalogue, with appearances on imprints such as Feines Tier, Running Back, Frank Music and his own URSL label.

Berlin-based duo CYRK deliver a disco peak-time anthem of a remix, injecting sharp electro edges and a cosmic club punch, while French producer Nhar offers a lush, dreamy reinterpretation that expands the emotional scope of the original.

Michael Mayer, aka Mr. Lava Lava asked a bunch of his absolute favourite artists to have a go at some of the tracks from his recent album 'The Floor Is Lava'. First up is Barcelona's brightest flame, RAXON, who is melting 'Brainwave 2.0' into a stompin fun-filled primetime banger. Longtime collaborator DAVE DK is a masterful producer and remixer that appears regularly on Pampa and Kompakt. His take on 'The Solution' feels like a road trip to paradise and back. Montreal's PRIORI is one of the hottest names in showbiz right now. His ability to bridge genres and create pristine sound designs is fully on display in his remix for 'The Solution'. Last but not least, the legend that is SEBASTIAN MULLAERT took a moment off from his revered Circle Of Live jams to transform the albums deepest cut 'Ardor' into an extraordinary musical journey. Oldschool Border Community vibes in the rebound!

"You Make Me Feel" was the first outtake from Steve Bug's second Poker Flat album "Sensual". Slowly but unmistakebly building up a hypnotic groove with a rolling percussion loop, ice-cold snare and hollering vocal (reminiscent of Gainsbourg's "Bonny and Clyde"), Bug forces you flashing your sharpest dancing routines even before he throws in that distorted, take-no-prisoners, Saunderson-style organ-bassline. Flip over for another version that's served up straightened-out and stripped down yet still manages to come up with a higher percentage of FUNK. Another totally satisfying five star menu for the Poker Flat gourmet.
