LET’S be frank, it was only a matter of time before we nabbed Dan Piu. Many years in the game with his own uber-respected labels Moto Music and deepArtSounds, in demand as an artist under his many guises (Allstarr Motomusic/George Btp) and collaborative projects (The WineLambs, Zarenzeit and Theory Of Movement, which he shares with deep house don Grant aka Anthony Collins), Piu may be old school but his recent renaissance has turned many heads including ours. His analogue alchemy is right up our strasse so we are beyond thrilled to be able to present the Zurich-based producer’s Technological Singularity EP here at Hizou. From the celestial groove-heavy Quantum Computing to the angular electronica of Robots In Rage and from the melodic techfunk of A Machine Will Never Do X to the soul- warming F#uk The World To The Core, aficionados, followers and fanboys will not be disappointed.

HZOS03 # DAN PIU - Technological Singularity Ep

For our sixth release, Parang Recordings is proud to present our first various artists compilation EP, featuring both emerging and established talents with a range of sounds from diverse backgrounds.
 
Lil Sorry and Lord of Leisure, both producers from Offenbach whose work has appeared on some of our favorite house labels, showcase Offenbach’s established deep house vibe with their contributions veering towards the gentle, the sublime, and the melodic. The understated dub influences in Lil Sorry’s ‘High Noon’ help to disguise its brisk tempo, further submerged by foregrounding of textured pads and wayward electronics that take center stage on this subdued groove. Lord of Leisure’s ‘Coffee N Chups’ is a sunrise house groover powered by funky bass and choppy hat and snare combos that keep the drive over sustained pads and a deep, repeating melody.
 
Shifting scenes to the UK for Manchester’s Spin Fidelity, a newly established name from releases on Barcelona’s revered Subwax, we find the toughest offering, a Detroit-inspired gem that lands solidly in the morning slot.

Rounding out the VA we have the head of London’s Rube Goldberg Series, Bowyer, who has so far remained mostly on his own imprint and is the freshest face here. His ‘Livelovelaugh’ closes the EP with its brightest offering, all melodic bassline, sunny keyboards, and worked vocal snippets with a punchline vocal at dramatic points to reinforce its uplifting demeanor.

No stranger to BABMAG and certainly no stranger to the city's electronic music scene, our next BAB mix is delivered by party maker, Jack D.

With a pure love for digging and playing tunes, as well as being responsible for some of the city's most successful parties in recent years, Jack D's position in Birmingham's nightlife is undoubtedly one of high esteem.

He runs Brum's biggest underground student nights; TEKTU and OFF-THE-CUFF and is responsible for the revival of Resonate, a party which has seen him bring Craig Richards, Nicolas Lutz and DJ Stingray to the city. As well as recently starting no-ego night Groove Planet.

A string of successful party brands and a meticulous ear for a wonky baselines and broken bangers has seen him play at international festivals and placed him in a position to curate a stage at one of Birmingham's favourite out of town festivals; Gottwood.

You'll find Jack playing some serious sets at his own parties, as well as some of the city's other electronic offerings, such as Space Lab and PENDA.

The seed was planted one night with the Seekers at Hoppetosse in Berlin. After his live performance, Ewan Jansen (Red Ember Records) found himself dancing to the sounds of Luca Piermattei (Polarity Records) alongside DJ and producer Locky Mazzucchelli (Polarity sub-label Fantasy Attitude). The three drank & smoked together for the first time and the next day… Polarity called.
