“Cimetière spatial” est une installation sonore imaginée dans le cadre de l'exposition Cosmopolitiques organisée par le collectif Polynome à Buropolis (Marseille) en avril 2022.

En 1957, la chienne Laïka est le premier être vivant à avoir été mis en orbite autour de la Terre. Cette installation s’inspire de son histoire et de celles des autres animaux décédés dans l’espace pour construire un hommage, un moment de recueillement, un monument funèbre à ces êtres jamais revenus. Laïka, les singes Albert I et Albert II, les araignées Arabella et Anita... nombreux·ses sont celles et ceux qui ont péri lors de missions de recherche sur les effets de l’espace sur le vivant. Sans elles et eux, l’exploration spatiale humaine n’aurait probablement pas eu lieu. 
Cette installation nous invite à réfléchir aux relations entre humains et non-humains, aux exploitations passées et aux possibilités d’empathie et de partage qui s’ouvrent à nous.

About:
The piece was written in spring of 2022, and it is dedicated to Idil, Beste and Nirantar. It is inspired by Zoe Karelli’s poem, “The tree” (1955) and the way the poet approaches the flux of time. Without defining a beginning or an end, the poem describes the constant transformations that derive from episodic time events.

'Based on the introduction of Jean-Paul Resweber's book "The Philosophy of Language", the piece explores the ambiguity between the voice that conveys a message and the voice whose acoustic and musical qualities are heard. It seems that when our attention is focused on the musical aspect of the voice, we forget the message it carries, and vice versa. The back and forth between these different levels of listening leaves the listener free to give it its own meaning, if there is one. And this is precisely the question asked by the original text. '

La philosophie du langage

For this episode, the podcast is joined by Quinn Slobodian and Timo Miettinen for a conversation on the many faces of neoliberalism. How should one approach the idea of neoliberalism, and what happened to neoliberalism after the 2016 shock of Trump and Brexit? 

Trump and Brexit are often seen as a backlash against the neoliberal elites and the rule-based global order, but this might be an oversimplification. Instead, we are witnessing the emergence of neoliberalism’s "bastards" in the form political projects that combine free-market ideas with nationalist and even racist tropes. What are the intellectual roots of such peculiar alliances? Moreover, It might be useful to analyse such phenomena as Brexit as signs of inter-elite conflicts and disputes concerning the architecture of the global economy, instead of putting too much emphasis on the disgruntled masses left behind by globalization. 

Quinn Slobodian is an associate professor of history at Wellesley College. His latest book is called “Globalists: The End of Empire and Birth of Neoliberalism”. Timo Miettinen is a researcher at the Centre for European studies at the University of Helsinki.
