Any artist is welcome to send us a track via freshonthenet.co.uk anytime between Monday lunchtime and Wednesday evening (or when we receive 200 submissions, whichever is sooner) - and all our moderators, including Tom Robinson, will listen to every track. If a track you submitted does not appear in this list, it’s probably because another of your tracks appeared in our Fresh Faves or on the BBC Music Introducing Mixtape during the last three months — we ask that artists featured on either wait three months before resubmitting to give others a chance. 

We also don’t accept short previews or SoundCloud Go tracks that can only be heard as 30 second previews, and tracks made private after submission, which cannot be included in playlists. You will be able to resubmit the track in future. Tracks (and remixes of tracks) that have been previously submitted, and tracks from banned artists will also be removed.

Fist Bump is driven along by a bassline that sits somewhere between Post-Punk and Rockabilly. While the guitars snarl and seethe, emphasising the drone effect of the bass, the drum track is loud, syncopated and treated with dramatic resonant effects. The vocal reminds me of Franz Ferdinand jamming with Kurt Vile. Kind of electronic Alt Rock that makes highly impactful use of dynamic contrasts and grows in intensity before signing off more gently with a chord-based piano-only figure at the end. One you will surely want to listen to again if only to answer the question: What just happened?  (Neil March, Fresh On The Net Review, Jan 17th 2022)

Big pop melodies, vocal hooks and a driving beat. Long Time Coming is a song about addressing your insecurities and fears about getting older and being stuck in one place for too long.

Some sax put through a distortion amp and some more sax in echo and reverb chambers, spurt some it through a synth, add some heavy bass, a dash of drone and a slow heavy kick beat. 

Throw in a tambourine, and it all comes spilling out in a sinful mess.

Apart from the bass, drums and tambourine, all the other sound is made out of saxophone.

It sounds like you shouldn't do this kind of thing to a sax. But I like it. And I should probably be ashamed of myself!

I wrote this song about falling in love with someone who I couldn't be with. I feel I can be seen as resentful in the song but towards the end of the song, as I'm singing, it's more of a cry for what could've been. The thought of 'what could have been' is one of the hardest heartbreaks of all. You've designed these hopes and dreams in your head with this person, and now you need to detach from them, and step back into a reality without them, when the comfort of them in your mind is a nicer place to be.

The tracks themes stem from information overload and the tendency for certain people to over share when sometimes you have enough going on in your head, without having others problems burdening you. Musically, there are influences from the likes of Softplay and Idles.

Believe

I wrote this song around the age of 13/14 during the darkest times of my depression. I put my negative thoughts on paper to help distract myself and eventually it turned into a song that I recorded as part of my grade for my Music diploma. The quality isn't great due to me not being able to receive the actual mp3 file- I played the song on the mac and recorded it into voice memos on my phone. enjoy :)

Bradford, the city of Culture, formed the broken-beat-maker Joe Smith, also known as Polite Bureaux. Smith is joined on stage by his Blood Sister Maya Lili and Raver Viv Maher, introducing Ying and Yang energy live.

2023: Polite Bureaux supported Benefits, also hitting the stage later that year, performing at The Great Escape Festival 2023, releasing their latest single UAMELON, and gaining airplay on BBC Introducing with Melita Dennett and Callum French. While gaining support from the famous music & culture magazine Louder Than War.

Polite Bureaux and Dyslexic Smith attributes his words to the diabolical truths of John Cooper Clarke. Other influences stem from Underworld, Joy Division, The Prodigy, and Sleafod Mods. Ultimately, Polite Bureaux's sound is upbeat and genre-mashing.

The siblings, born in the big cities of London and Keighley, have a family history of Irish and Filipino Malay roots. Their youth was spent much across the country than in one place. Strong family unity is what elevates Polite Bureaux from the crowd. With words that hit home and stand out as most ordinary in today’s world, Championing his youngster from the sidelines is wordsmith and poet Rob. Smith’s father plays a significant role in the lyricism of Polite Bureaux, as his poetry is used as power to pride and break stigma through the performance of music.

Expect brutal honesty and true energy in his venting on stage and in your ears. It’s always more than just a play on words. 2024 catches Polite Bureaux on a UK support tour with Meryl Streek, and a debut album release is on the way, set for release on March 14, 2024.
