This week we welcome the illustrious Sonny Whu representing the DUNJ crew. A stalwart of the Sydney/Eora scene, Sonny can usually be found loitering in dark spaces and moving his hips wherever the vibe is right. From humble beginnings dragging subs down coastal trails, his affinity for low end music has found him supporting acts such as Mungos Hifi, Om Unit, Moresounds, and Etch to name a few. Sonny tells us that the DUNJ crew is approaching its 10th anniversary as a collective, and he has taken this opportunity to dig through some older playlists in effort to show influences that have shaped his musical trajectory. Expect a healthy dose of Techno and UK bass hybrids, with a smattering of breakbeat manipulation to season the sauce.

Eggplant3 is an Eora-based artist with a precise ear for crowd movement, who carefully blends tribal drum workouts with dub, bass and dark breaks. Drawing inspiration from sound system and bass culture coming out of the UK as well as a tickle of Afrobeat and Amapiano influence, Jo mashes these grooves and patterns together, guiding the mix between fast and slower bpms throughout the hour.

Jo is also a founding member of Safari Park, a local crew putting on some of the most fun parties in the scene, pushing the boundaries of bass. They also have a monthly @nomadradiofm show!

Recently, having a remix included on Loïcc’s EP out via FAN CLUBⒸ - Jo’s productions reflect this same affinity with pressurised percussion. Some unreleased work can be spotted in and amongst his mixes and Safari Park Shows.

We’ve invited some of our favourite artists who are invested in promoting inclusivity to share an unexpected side of their music taste. "After an unexpected year of long lockdowns, being unable to see one another for months and gigs put on hold indefinitely, we were finally able to get together and record this mix, going b2b for the first time since the beginning of lockdown in March! When we first met a few years ago, we bonded over a shared love for all sounds spanning across the bass spectrum and spent countless evenings going b2b on youtube. Much like this year, we ditched all plans and just went in for the mix, bouncing off each other and playing the tracks we knew the other would love. This mix allowed us to lean into the deeper and darker side of our musical tastes, making it dark, dubby and percussive. We think it speaks well to the feeling of pent up energy, and the dreams of long and loud nights at the club with friends. Hopefully we’ll all be back in front of the funktion 1’s soon (not without your earplugs!). Here is a mix between friends, hopefully it brings you as much joy listening as it brought us while making!
