Following on from the well received Chord Cluster 12" from late 2017, the irresistible pairing of Steve Bug (@stevebug) and Langenberg (@langenberg) return with 'Paradise Sold' - a full ten track album of exquisitely crafted house music on Bug’s own Poker Flat Recordings.  (Out: 6th of April 2018)

Neither Steve Bug nor Langenberg needs much introduction due to the sizeable contributions both have made in building the European house and techno scene as we know it. Bug’s relentless commitment to quality - both in his own work and in the many producers he has championed - has made him one of electronic music's most revered artists and curators. 

Langenberg aka Max Heesen is the deep guru of the German Deep House Scene. One half of the duo Ribn, he has released on labels like Drumpoet, STHLM Audio, Strax Leaves, Ovum and most notably on Dessous who put out his debut solo LP released in late 2016. Put these two dons in a studio together, and the results are truly special. 

With „A Touch Of Detroit“ you can get a first insight, tipping the cap to the forefathers who went before, the track explores a harder-edged machine funk that echos the city’s pivotal role in electronic music. The pads are restrained, while the bass and rhythm track hit all the right emotional buttons.

‘Black Box Animals’ is the debut release from the Italian duo, Luton, formed in 2017 by Roberto P. Siguera and Attilio Novellino. The album is a textural feast of classically composed phrasing and heavily tar-coated mechanics. Crawling abstract electronic structures meld seamlessly into a wide array of electro-acoustics, built upon a fine edge that is focused on mood as much as melody. With each piece Luton deliver their own curious venom, striving for contrast, never settling into a predetermined genre. 

Contradiction permeates ‘Black Box Animals.’ Caution and weariness are etched into its themes. Luton feeds this uncertainty with its ability to create deeply affecting landscapes, as isolated and claustrophobic as they are warm and disarming. Within these dim seductions, a perplexing balance resides, something so familiar and primal, yet in the same breath so foreign and cryptic.  In truth, the more human, acoustic aspects of Luton’s sound are so tightly woven to that of the machine, one would be hard pressed to find any edges at all.

‘Black Box Animals’ was recorded around Europe with Luton Sinfonietta Orchestra, during several sessions of improvisation and post production in Stockholm, Manchester, Munich and Turin. In addition to the orchestral scores, written by Rob, both musicians played various other instruments including classical guitar, ancient Russian zither, piano, electric bass and guitars, e-bow, pedals and electronics. All tracks were finalized by Attilio in order to find their otherworldly magic.

The album shares some of the moodiness and frantic delivery of Deaf Center or even Ben Frost’s works for film.  Elsewhere, the intense drive and alchemic meld of electro-acoustic elements recall the likes of Rafael Anton Irisarri or Tim Hecker. While Luton find commonalities with these well-known masters, ‘Black Box Animals’ makes an impression all its own, creating an array of complex emotions, leaving us feeling a bit dirty, humbled, inexplicably at ease, perhaps off guard just enough to reshape our damaged conscious into a form of its own likeness.

Exclusive Impérieux 'Patron'

DJ and producer Impérieux returns to BOg's label ATLANT with his for a third time with his 'Veran EP' and manages to emphasize his exquiste taste in selecting soundscapes and piecing them together to extraordinary compositions once again. 'Patron' is probably Impérieux's deepest musical approach and starts off with a warm lead synth-chord melody that shortly after is accompanied by a second melody that guides the listener through the first 4:30 mins of the track. Impérieux then combines the synths and adds a beeping sound that outlasts the break and is subbed by slight percussive elements before bringing back the warm and deep chords that shaped the tracks character from the start.

Impérieux's EP 'Veran' will be released July 2nd, 2018 on ATLANT Recordings.
