Proto Launch Base Zone Act 1 Reimagined

My submission for the first round of SHC's Mega Drive Music Contest!

The prompt for this round was to doll up a track in Sonic 3 that was changed for the Origins collection, and though I had done a couple already (Launch Base and Super Sonic say hi!), there were rules against submitting past works, so I opted to choose Ice Cap Zone.

Now for this one, I tried to maintain a level of high energy all throughout, since the zone still opens up with Sonic snowboarding down a mountain, and the original proto track comes off super unfitting in that context (I even played the track alongside footage from the game to make sure it felt right). I also added some original stuff after the B-section to break the repetition of having the same two chords over and over.

A SEGA Genesis (YM2612 + SN76489 chipset) cover of Treetop from Super Mario Land 2.

Super Mario Land 2 is a pretty kickass game, especially for the Game Boy. From the fancy spritework to the catchy tunes, everything screams Mario; but with a delightfully wacky twist. Plus, this game introduced the best fictional character of all time: Wario.

Treetop - Super Mario Land 2 (SEGA Genesis / YM2612 + SN76489)

Wow this track was INCREDIBLY difficult to put together. It's not because the song itself is difficult, the song is actually very simple. It was because of the amount of trial and error I had to go through to get to this point. It was a fun challenge for sure! I always try to capture the feel of the original song while still maintaining my trademark sparkly style!
