I’ve been revisiting an old recording technique I named - “Dragged Mics” - it is what it’s called! I drag two dynamic mics behind me on various surfaces. This one is from my lawn this morning, where the grass was frosty. No edits to the recording. Works great with headphones so you get the full effect of the crazy stereo perspective.

Robbie Shilliam joins PTO to talk about his article, 'Enoch Powell: Britain’s First Neoliberal Politician' which appeared in the New Political Economy Journal. We spoke about how Enoch Powell, far from being a political throwback was in fact a key figure in the emergence of neoliberalism and Thatcherism, and how his politics presaged the Brexit project. We also chatted about how Powell, in contrast to many conservatives became hostile to nostalgia for the British Empire and how he believed that an independent Britain, neither ruling an empire, nor becoming part of the embryonic European Union would find its proper place in the world.

The proposed new Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill is an obvious assault on the right to protest, threatening penalties of up to 10 years in prison for "causing public nuisance". With the bill on its way to becoming law, Jeremy Gilbert, Nadia Idle and Keir Milburn draw on their own experiences to discuss the recent #KillTheBill protests. How is the bill a reaction to movements like Black Lives Matter and Extinction Rebellion? What might it reveal about the social coalition backing up the current Tory government? And just how effective are street protests anyway?
