Naarm (Melbourne) based collective Butter Sessions celebrate over a decade in business with an extensive glossary of talented friends and affiliates pressed on a three-part compilation series. The label has always held the community closest, as exemplified by the 20+ artists featured over the three releases. Each 12” presents a grand soundscape anchored into the tenebrous energy of the dancefloor, with its inquisitive electronics and fierce pulse. If there was a definition for the Butter Sessions sound of ten years in the making, the answer lies here. 

The final compilation in the series commences with Time, a masterful blend of mid-tempo digi-dub and two step. Mosam Howieson gifts us Influx, a thick and hazy wedge of techno and Canada’s D. Tiffany serves up the mechanic and restless techno on a knife's edge in Cast the Trance. Ben Fester delivers Tumbo Rumblin, a leftfield slice of intergalactic electronics. Meanwhile, Furious Frank presents the electro and acid charged Blue Light while Makeda plays with genre expectations with the experimental composition Fable. Finally, the record's conclusion is Doordrms by Ben Keynes; dipping in tempo with acid drops, resulting in thoughtful IDM nuances.

Bristol Producer, Boulderhead gives us a taste of his take on minimal, spacey breakbeat rhythms. His ‘Expander’ EP brings on a cosmic journey through bassline melodies and an immense explosion of hypnotic drum patterns and sky-fi textures.

Boulderhead has a unique way of blending new production techniques alongside creative patterns & sounds from playing around with a variety of synths and effects.

Also, what a treat. The track ‘Module Upgrade’ from the EP has been graced with two-fire, first-class remixes that will fully immerse you into all of the energetic flows these tunes have to offer. Huge thank you to Conna Haraway and Enxerto aka Vitor Munhoz for hopping on the remix duties.

With a fair amount of pride, Warning presents the debut EP of emerging artist JCow. Four fresh cuts that will stand the test of time. Opening with high energetic roller Magma on the A side, accompanied by Purity of Spirit, an uplifting basement Rave anthem. On the flip things get more twisted with Groove Ryder, a melange of funky Breakz, Trance and Trip-Hop. The Acid Fiend Mix of formerly digitally released Rave Patrol is completing this record with an overboarding composition of drums and JCow’s own guitar.

The mountains were tall, the black tinged rocks could be seen jagged and abhorrent against the fluffy white clouds of which they poked through promptly. It were as if they'd touched down upon another planet, they were ghosts lost far from home, cold faint shadows dotted against a vast expanse and structures which had been here long before them.

The cold wind bounced and reverberated between the ragged cliff faces, blowing a dusting of snow downwards towards whatever lay beneath. How the hell they might ever make it down they did not know, for now all they could do was cling on for dear life.

O - Wells is a producer whom we have followed carefully over the years. He's released music on the likes of Live at Robert Johnson, Chiwax and many more but has most notably made Die Orakel his home where he has released music alongside the guidance of Oli Hafenbauer and has grown in potential and prosperity as an artist.

His latest EP features four club focussed tracks made up of futuristic electro and techno.

Adam Pits lands next for a debut on X-Kalay as one of the most talked about new producers circulating the UK underground. Based in Leeds, Pits has already attracted the attention and support of established players such as Subb-ann, Call Super and Ciel and left countless others scrambling to chase down his energetic club centric productions.

With his style drawing on the best elements of proggy house, breaks, trance and techno he delivers a solid EP for X-Kalay of driving club rhythms, UK bass and tranced out euphoria; the maturity of his craft seeming to belie this young producer’s relatively modest age.

We premiere title track “Piston Pump”, which provides something a little different than what we've come to expect with Adam's productions - yet demonstrating his broad flex to hit every corner of the dance floor. This cut errs on an almost video game-esque soundtrack tip, Duke Nukem style - slowly chugging its way through dystopian pixels and blocky future formations. It's also well worth listening to the mysterious Magicwire artist Bliss Inc. remix of this, flipping the downtempo vibes into a chugged out trancey peak time banger.

PREMIERE: Adam Pits - Piston Pump [X-Kalay]

There was a moving shadow, it danced against a pale backdrop as the building was illuminated in the glow of the moonlight from up above. Some watched as she danced and contorted herself with wild passion and delicate grace, others were too busy lost in conversation to care or notice. This was a simulation, a world inside a CU, a computer unit was all that could imagine such beauty, it had to be. In the distance the sound of electronics and drums could be heard getting closer as the flickering stars danced like glitches upon a dense black matrix of processors and the night. 

none/such are a Michigan based record label and collective with impeccable taste. They have released a number of EP's and compilations which showcase their fierce knowledge of electro, techno and the spaces in between. On the 4th of December they will release a compilation of material from an array of artists in support of the Detroit Defense Committee, who work to defend all working class and oppressed people. The group is involved in coordinating and providing security for the daily marches organized by Detroit Will Breathe and are in the process of building coalitions and solidarity with other radical organizations in Detroit. 

This track is by O-Wells, the German producer, who has previously featured on the likes of Die Orakel and Live At Robert Johnson.
