I'm a former sound engineer from Translab Studio Paris, providing audio mastering for +650 releases including Pepe Bradock "Deep Burnt", and all Daft Punk's Crydamoure label. I've carved the French-Touch sound during 10 years and launched the lounge music movement. I initiated the first raves in France with my friend Manu Casana, sound-designed Karl Lagerfeld's shows amongst others. This is my new projet. 100 compilations, sharing my personal selection of the best contemporary music, mixed together in the most eclectic way, yet creating an unforgettable journey. This is my "Collection".

J’ai le plaisir de vous présenter « Collection 001 », le premier volume d’une série de 100 compilations, pensée comme une véritable anthologie personnelle de la musique moderne – du 20ème siècle à nos jours. 

L’inspiration de ce premier opus, qui se poursuivra dans les suivants, prend source dans l’éclectisme au service du voyage musical, afin de faire vibrer le plus grand nombre d’auditeurs de tous âges. Chacun des morceaux choisis provient d’époques, de genres et de styles très différents, qui ne sont pas naturellement voués à se côtoyer dans un « mix ».

C’est ma vision de la musique généraliste et une suite logique à ce qu’avait initié en son temps la lounge-music. Ma volonté, c’est que le voyage du mix, mais aussi le voyage de chacun des morceaux qui le composent, soient riches et racontent une magnifique histoire.

Dans « Collection 001 », vous allez retrouver Miles Davis, The Cure, Joao Gilberto, Acid Pauli, et bien plus encore. J’ai même choisi de glisser un extrait de la symphonie n°5 de Gustave Malher, qui naît d’un morceau de hip-hop soyeux du groupe américain The Pharcyde. Nous vivons une époque où le temps s’est beaucoup accéléré, nous n’écoutons pratiquement plus de musique classique - exceptés les amoureux du genre - car elle nécessite d’y porter une complète attention.   

Ce premier volume est l’expression de ma sensibilité et débute un projet important, qui a l’ambition de faire partie du monde d’après…

If you were to ask, DADADISCO wouldn't name a single specific source of their inspiration. These two French gourmands take in and digest pretty much everything, from hard rock and heavy metal to synthetics and ambience... That means you can expect anything from Denis and Guillaume but cliché. Design, art, cinema and fashion are just as important to them as music. And it all comes through in their sets. These gents are very much the products of the "promiscuous and omnivorous" disco mayhem, forever imprinted in the collective memory of club culture as Bar25. It was through this jolly demonic mill, fumes and flames, thick and thin, that this combo blazed their way onto Berlin's raucous music scene. Veritable performers, their epic endless sets were somewhat of a cross between music and circus. When it closed for good, DADADISCO went global, spreading their retro-futuristic sound along with their overtly surrealist attitude. "Dada" in their name refers, of course, to a movement that in the mid-20th century famously repudiated and mocked all sorts of artistic conventions while emphasizing the illogical and absurd. DADADISCO keeps experimenting with genres and influences to discover and deliver their own unique blend of sexy electronica, always favouring spontaneity over etiquette. The name sticks on all of these counts.

Découvrez dès maintenant « Collection 002 », second épisode issu de ma série de 100 compilations, conçue comme une anthologie personnelle de la musique moderne. 

J’ai réalisé ce deuxième opus dans la foulée du 001. Il conserve cet éclectisme musical qui m’est cher et qu’on l’on retrouvera au moins dans les 5 premiers volumes. 

Pour ce 002, la différence principale réside dans une sélection plus « punchy » et plus moderne, mais toujours avec une palette large de styles, de rythmes et d’atmosphères. 

On y retrouve de nombreux morceaux des années 2000 et les contrastes entre les titres sont plus prononcés. Je vous propose notamment quelques rencontres improbables : Lyn Collins côtoie Pierre Anckaert, la soul de Roseaux prend le train de la house avec Fingers Inc., Anderson .Paak danse avec le groupe Up, Bustle and Out… tandis que Jane Birkin chuchote aux oreilles de Funkstörung.

Afin de mélanger tout ce beau monde - sans tomber dans un patchwork un peu indigeste - je prends le parti de me servir de techniques de mix qui se répètent le moins possible. Parfois, la simplicité d’un cut millimétré rend le passage d’un titre à l’autre beau et efficace. A l'inverse, certains mixes plus longs permettent de créer, l’espace d’un instant, un nouveau morceau dans le mélange de deux titres qui se croisent. A d’autres moments j’utilise des sons d’ambiances que je mets en scène, à l’instar du bruit de la machine à fumée et des glaçons que j’ai inséré à l’entrée du morceau de Miles Davis dans ma première compilation. 

Comme vous le savez pour certains, j’ai été ingénieur du son en mastering et gravure vinyles pendant plus de 10 ans. En montant des albums, j’ai appris que ce sont les silences entre les morceaux qui font le rythme… mais pour un mix où il n’y a aucune coupure, le maître-mot pour imprimer un rythme dans la succession des morceaux, c’est l’alternance. 

L’écrin dans lequel je vous offre cette sélection est stylisé et le rythme de la compilation est donc ici déterminé par l’alternance des mixes. Ce concept me permet de créer l’émotion et la surprise à chaque changement.

MV013 The Oddness

The word ‘Odd’ has many connotations but fits perfectly when describing the sound of Melbourne producer and performer Warwick Ferguson through his genre bending project The Oddness.

Sitting at the forefront of the Downtempo / Organic house scene in Australia, the last 3 years has seen him perform at Australia’s premium festivals including Rainbow Serpent, Esoteric, Elements and Let Them Eat Cake, both as a solo act and with his 3-piece band including multi-instrumentalists Dylan Jarrad and Timmus.

A prolific output of music, including three Albums, have been released through labels including Sol Selectas, Beat & Path and Eskimo Recordings. As well as his original music he is widely known for his re-interpretations of classic tracks though his ‘Reworks, Edits and Bootlegs’ series. 2022 saw his production lead to the world of television with multiple works used in advertising projects and is currently working on the soundtrack for a TV series in production.

The Mbuki Mvuki Movement is here to encourage and support Flinta artists. To help close the gap step by step. And this month we have the honor to enjoy the unique sound of Gela. This powerhouse of a woman just became a mother a month ago! In the last months of her pregnancy playing in clubs with loud basses was obviously not an option anymore, so she started exploring other creative processes on music making and mixing at home. This Mbuki Mvuki episode was made with a 9 month big belly! <3

Gela is currently based in the beautiful mountains of San Sebastian in Spain after living pretty much all over the country. Her DJ career started around 21 years ago, when friends opened a bar and asked Gela to provide the music vibe. She never stopped doing it since. Connecting with the crowd and meeting other artists is just too good and nurtures her a lot. Also another important part of being a DJ is enjoying spending a lot of your time digging and discovering music and Gela - well, she digs it ;)

Gela is putting a lot of effort when it comes to improving equality in the music industry. Inclusion of the underrepresented must be on the agenda for a better and more sustainable future. She is part of Keychange this year. Supported by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union, Keychange is a global network and movement working towards a total restructure of the music industry in reaching full gender equality. Keychange consists of partners collaborating from 12 different countries, working proactively to make this change. And she has been granted the opportunity to represent her country this year. The movement has put together a pledge for equality in the music industry. 2022 marked my 7th burn - and it was by far my hardest.  It's no secret that the playa was unforgiving.  

Unprecedented bumpy roads, insane white-out early build conditions, and global warming induced heat waves made this years burn pretty SHITTY.  Truly fighting for survival while having the best time of your life (HA).  12 days on playa and my body is broken, my wheels have come off, I’ve lost a bunch of stuff incl my mind…..but regardless my heart was still a buzz ✨✨

Going solo was a new experience.  From driving a box truck while towing an art car, to learning to work with generators in the quest for a cool AC sleep…..going to hell station to pump gas…..it wasn’t at all easy.  I spent the first 3 days crying and purging all the feels from the last few years.  Planning weddings, DJing, hearding a crew of faffing cats with a megaphone…..all part of the experience.  To the lady who thought I worked the VIP line at a certain art car with mega lazers, may my ill-fitted suit and a dated microsoft headset forever be your guiding light to getting up on the bus 🤣

I’m grateful to have this place of self expression and discovery, where each year my community grows….so many friends, so many laughs!  this is why I keep coming back over and over….just like a big family reunion with a bunch of creative FREAKS ☺️.  No limits on what is possible…..and no amount of photos will ever capture the micro-moments of ingenuity, wit or humor.  It is incredible how resourceful and resilient burners are.  and how infectious the feeling of mass participation is 💓

My set at Pink Mammoth was a piece of this moment captured in time, and I hope this recording can get you excited to return to the playa this year, when many of us sit it out!  The fire burns on! xx
