Paradise - Pools Mixtape Vol. 1

Based in Stockholm since the late 1990s, British-born Mark Seven began his obsession with the dance at now vaunted London parties such as Delirium, to a soundtrack of Soul, Funk, and Hip Hop. As Acid House took root in the capital Mark became a regular at the similarly hallowed Future and Shoom and started organizing his own events. His passion for discovery led him to journey to the U.S. and Europe to source vinyl, and has resulted in his own on-line store, JusWax. In Stockholm Mark set up the Black Lodge all-nighters, mix-tapes from which helped to alert the outside world to his knowledge and ability. 

Mark is probably one of the best selectors around and is making a journey over here next month (details of that here: http://on.fb.me/1dwxT5v). 

With that in min we thought it was high time we asked him to formulate a mix for the R$N series.

Fusing house, r'n'b and sugar sweet boogie (check 'Heaven's Gate'), Sammy D, Ryan Williams and Michael Tello released their debut album 'Je Ne Sais Quoi' on the New York label this year, following a run of 12"s including the mellow 'Lullaby'.

Art Of Tones is a French artist whose style has been a feature of labels including Robsoul, 20/20 Vision, Lazy Days Music, and Defected.

Along with the above list of labels he has also been a regular feature of the Local Talk imprint which recently dropped his debut album titled “Unbalanced” that you can purchase using the below link…

For those not already familiar with Art Of Tones, he is heavily influenced by disco along with other associated genres such as funk and soul, and his tracks are often built around dusty samples taken from long forgotten old records.

His new album focuses heavily on this sampled style and even opens with a tongue and cheek speech about copyright infringement linked to the sampling of other records.
 
Based on the theme of sampling, he has done us mixtape, which is built up of tracks sampled in other forms of music, or tracks known to have been built around loops taken from other records. 

It’s an eclectic mix of funk, afro jazz and disco with an uplifting vibe that we hope you all enjoy.

Make way for a truly international meltdown!

Born out of the favelas and samba schools of São Paulo, the Afro Bruk Band Project is a collaboration of singers, poets, musicians, friends and family. Their sound is inspired by Bossa-Nova, Afrobeat, Brasilian / Cuban Yoruba culture and the Broken Beat sound from the UK.

The brainchild of the project is Swiss-based Ruben Estevez, producer and DJ of Bruk Boogie Kru sound system. His aim was to create a live project, to promote musicians, to diffuse their passion out of Brasil and to export Brasilian musical street culture.

The project touches on many geographical locations. Most of the recordings were done in São Paulo with a few finishing touches in Johannesburg and final production by Ruben Estevez in Switzerland and co-production by Rui Fradinho in London.
