Since the dawn of time, humans have told stories. Through cave drawings, dance and music over open fires, we have told stories as a way to shape our existence. The elements of a story - a beginning, middle and end - are often the same, but as humans we each offer a unique perspective which shapes how a story is relayed. Sapien is a story teller, combining elements of the ancient past, the living present and the technological future, carefully constructed into frequencies that resonate on a level that transcends language, and is left to each person to interpret in a way that is unique to their own self in that specific moment of time.

Origins is a varied affair, with a heavy focus on the space between the notes. The uncluttered rhythms allows the elements to breathe and move between each other. Yet other songs give birth to densely packed IDM-inspired percussion, while the acoustic elements really take their time to bubble up. In Origins, there is both darkness and light, and all feels as mysterious as our own beginning.

'Chorus' is a commissioned piece for the project “Archive Dive” by Gaudeamus and Stranded FM radio. Five contemporary composers could dig up music from the vast archives collected over 75 years of Gaudeamus and create something new with what they found. Chorus is based on the sampling of De Natura Sonorum by Bernard Parmegiani, Six Pianos by Steve Reich, Jardin Secret I by Kaija Saariaho and Le Mystere des Voix Bulgeres V II recorded by Marcel Cellier. They are some of my favorite electroacoustic composers and the piece blends their works together in a tribute to their pioneering work within the realm of vocal and electronic music.

This compilation was made by beautiful humans from all around the world. It is a collection of 11 varied tracks. It is noisy, experimental, sometimes brutal, with choir, different languages, vocals, piano and drums... While the tracks are all different, they are united by the fight against domestic violence.

As you may know, this pandemic is a nightmare for women facing domestic and sexual abuse. In many situations they have been forced into lockdown with their abuser. If you or someone you know is facing violence, despite how hard and impossible it might feel, help is out there and it is possible to escape the situation you're in.

The money raised on Bandcamp will go to La Fédération Nationale Solidarité Femmes, a French charity helping women in distress.
