This song comes from Michael Head's very popular cycle 'Over the Rim of the Moon.' The song has three very clear sections marking the journey of someone who has been left behind.

This song follows the journey of a gondolier who is trying to convince his love, Ninetta, to come away with him on his gondola away into the night.

He repeats that the boat is ready for them to sail away together, but does she ever go with him?
