Subterranean / basement offering - this is a rare outing for my guitar which I love to pick at (even tho it's steel strings numb my fingers!).
Another rarity is a wail on my old Pierret tenor sax which I've had since 1972 and still blows nice.

Dark Corner Quartet (Blues for a Dark Corner)

Never have there been more prominent women clarinetists, saxophonists, and flutists in jazz that there are today and that trend has been increasing steadily for years.  In the 25th annual Jazz Journalists Association Jazz Awards alto player Lakecia Benjamin was the Up and Coming Musician of the Year, Lauren Sevian was the Baritone Saxophonist of the Year, Jane Ira Bloom was the Soprano Saxophonist of the Year, Nicole Mitchell the Flutist of the Year, and Anat Cohen the Clarinetist of the Year. In addition, young tenor saxophonists Roxy Coss  and Melissa Aldana have become well-known for their playing and composing.  The new world of women jazz woodwind players in this hour of Jazz at 100 Today!

Rising Star vibraphonist Behn Gillece strikes an effortless and joyous balance between sound, silence and rhythm on his new album “Between The Bars.” With tasteful application of his craft, Gillece repeatedly shifts his focus back and forth between a variety of techniques and perspectives. While doing this, he moves straight forward through a series of original compositions that skillfully combine his high-powered harmonic approach with stunning displays of lyricism, creating an engaging set of transformative tour de force performances. Gillece shines brightly throughout, while clearly enjoying the supportive companionship of pianist Art Hirahara, bassist Peter Slavov, and drummer Vinnie Sperrazza, each of whom provide unique contributions to the proceedings. Also joining the band for a few tracks are saxophonists Diego Rivera and Patrick Cornelius, along with talented newcomer trombonist Altin Sencalar. With an expressive program of musical expeditions, “Between The Bars” is an engaging exposition that will transport listeners into new realms of insight and sonorous delight.
