Passion, dedication and hard work - Kosenprod is a label which is all about these things and more. Created back in 2011, the label is known to cross boundaries between bass music, techno and drum & bass, with a diverse roster of artists and producers all with an eye and an ear for creativity and sincerity. 

One such artist is The Clamps. Graduating from techno, to breaks and trance, to d&b, the producer values everything hard and extreme, taking his influences and creating something new. All of this is showcased on the new release, the Aekon EP. 

Aekon is stunning. Right from the intro, all the way through the track, The Clamps means business. Slowly building up, the producer adds layers of sounds, from the complex and involving drum work through to bass and percussion. Things drop down quickly, with booming, punchy beats and attitude-filled background. Engaging, serious and ever-so addictive, this one is set to be huge. The flip, S&A, follows a similar path, A cinematic opening leads into a build up which is emotional and awe-inspiring. Echoes of melody are torn down as the amazing main section shows The Clamps as a musician who doesn’t believe in half measures. It’s all on the line on S&A. Electricity bristles across the mix, as S&A is revealed as a true slice of tech-influenced drum & bass genius.

Volatile Cycle, a name that is becoming firmly cemented into the upper echelons of cutting edge drum and bass is taking the scene by storm with their take on the darker end of the drum and bass spectrum. Consisting of 2 members, Dan Lawrence and James Chick, they began experimenting individually with genres such as garage and glitch hop and eventually found their niche in drum and bass. Building up their rep with a slew of releases on a number of reputable drum and bass outputs, they have worked 
their way up through the ranks to finally drop their debut LP on the seminal and beloved label Renegade Hardware. The Reaktiv LP is a masterclass in drum and music, showcasing their highly refined technical ability, yet still retaining the classic style reminiscent of the early Hardware days. Opening track ‘Wrench’ sets the tone, cutting through with razor sharp precision, whilst ‘Reckless’ and ‘Obey’ dominate the dancefloor with pulsating sub frequencies and rattling percussions. Newcomer to the scene Yen joins forces to unleash sinister undertones with ‘Forgotten Future’, whilst Russian neurofunk whizz Cod3x teams up with the duo to kill the dance with ‘Bounce. Nuklear MC puts his lyrical stamp on the track ‘Status’, a stripped back roller designed to cause maximum dancefloor damage. The Reaktiv LP is a huge milestone for Volatile Cycle. Night has fallen, the threat of extinction riding on the edge of its transition. Decaying and contorted faces of the undead leer from the shadows, twisted limbs reaching from the darkness towards the eternal signal - driven to crush its subversive broadcast and extinguish the final beacon. A single being stands in their way - the strongest of his kind, the last of a genetic line extending into a derelict past with an imperative to preserve the future. An arsenal of sonic weaponry residing within the lines of his palms, drawn forth through the ancient forms manifested by long-dead masters. His swift movement amongst the shuffling army is efficient - acute strikes snap limbs, raw concentrated power crushes bone, low-frequency techniques leaving little behind from the weight of brutal molecular disruption. With the rising of the sun, only he remains – the broken dead lying scattered and without motion – the focused power of his fighting form has prevailed… the signal is preserved.
 
Following up on the impact of the sampler EP, L 33 unleashes his most devastating technique upon the EATBRAIN label with his KARATE LP. An artist residing at the heart of the Eatbrain collective with an entirely unique and recognizable sound – his album delivers a polished and hard-hitting array of tracks designed with pure dancefloor palpitation in mind. With pounding signature sound tracks that L 33 fans will hungrily devour such as KARATE, STRANGE THINGS and ELECTRIX alongside fresh sonic experiments with hard-hitting neuro in the form of DROP IT DOWN LOW and GRIME ALL THE TIME, the Karate LP delivers a heavyweight manifesto for both L 33 and the evermore legendary Eatbrain.

Alongside the delicious aggressiveness that made Audio so renowned, his ‘Beastmode’ LP cracks him open like you’ve never heard him before. Fiercely powerful, yet intricately different, each cut from his debut album on the Ram Records imprint packs a very different punch whilst hitting with the same fierceness and wealth of talent. 

‘Beastmode’ reflects all his output to date. Whether it’s the old-school flavor of virus, or the steppy-unapologetic riddims he’s served up for Ram, this record won’t leave you questioning who rules supreme over the genre’s murkier waters. 

Whether it’s the half-time, two stepping ‘Move it Along’ or the pulsing, snarling undertones of ‘Thud’, you’re blessed with a barrage full of fresh sonic assaults. ‘Thunder Ridge’ serves as the perfect opener, a brand new record with synth-laddered foreboding intro which pushes you below the surf. Tinkling hi-hats and a distorted LFO adds shockwaves throughout the mix, submerging you even deeper. Urgent, pulsing and nastily crafted, this is Audio at his most fearsome. 

On the other hand, ‘Rogue’ presents a clanking, runaway riddim that snaps its teeth with every break. Stacked between ominous build ups and jaunty samples, the second drop flairs out as angrily as the first, demonstrating Audio’s ingenious sound design. 

And flipping the switch once again is ‘Sovereign’, a nod to the producer’s roots and a track that gradually builds its presence throughout. Between warbling stabs and peddled kick drum, you’re drawn by the aural nerves. Elevating beat patterns set you up for another descent into madness, through a stringently tight composition. 

Featuring artists, such as drum & bass heavyweight Prolix, also take center stage. Their collaboration ‘Creatures’, alongside the revered lyricist Nuklear MC, adds a welcomed surprise. ‘Creatures’ delivers everything you’d expect and more; steroid-pumped subs, the dark overture of Nuklear and apocalyptic atmospherics. 

Also featured on its weighty track listing are singles ‘Make it Happen’, ‘Overdose’, ‘Drop it Human’ and ‘Shatterdome’. They were a precursor for what was to come, which signified one of the darkest, most uncompromising productions yet on Ram Records… In all of its twenty five years of history.
