A cosmic comedy with a twist: William Herschel, who discovered Uranus in 1781, was also a musician - so we’re in good company. The Beating Edge shares his love for both music and the stars. Dropping late August, this track is perfect for summer nights under the stars (and cracking a few cosmic jokes). Look up… and remember: it's just a planet!
💫 Poetic license alert: we know Uranus isn’t actually shining bright in the night sky, it’s almost invisible to the naked eye. To spot it, you’d need binoculars or a small telescope, and a really dark location, definitely not in the city.
💫 Bonus: you don’t need a telescope to enjoy it, but laughing is mandatory!

After visiting Norfolk Island this year (2025), I was moved to write a song about some of its unique aspects of everyday life - the quirky local phone book entries, the priority that cows have over vehicular traffic and the Norfolk Wave - as well as acknowledging the history of the island’s permanent settlement by descendants of HMS Bounty’s mutineers.

The Bounty Legacy

Some songs practically write themselves. This one did – quick to draft, quick to arrange. The result: a textbook three-minute pop song, complete with verse, bridge, and middle eight.

Drummer Christoph gave it an unexpected twist when he rewrote the lyrics as a wedding gift for a close friend in London – and even joined the local party band for a surprise performance. A handful of those lines survived into the final cut, earning him a co-writer’s credit.

For the theory enthusiasts: the track opens with the oldest trick in the book – the move from a major chord to its minor parallel. But the third shift, a semitone drop paired with a major seventh in the melody, is, according to mixing engineer and guest keyboardist Jakob, “absolutely unusual.” He should know.

The cover art’s rocky motif? A snapshot Rich captured on holiday in Sardinia a few years back.
