Evening, Wednesday, Black Rock City 2014. Led by Paavo and Tony of Above and Beyond, bathing in the lavender sunset, we practiced an hour of yoga with Elena Brower. We gathered, strengthened, listened and received the gift of quiet. We landed at home in our own hearts. This class reminds us that we are never alone, and that no matter where we are, we are on the path, and right at home.

Opulent Temple's  13th Annual Sacred Dance 'white party' was mobile this year, since we decided to take a break from doing a sound camp.  We teamed up with the Bounce crew from Santa Cruz and a bunch of other participating art cars for an open playa party near the Flaming Lotus Girls' Serpent Mother.  I had planned this set musically in 2 distinct 45 minute sets as we were supposed to move to a different spot half way through, and I knew the dance floor would have to reset when we stopped again.  We ended up being so packed in with people and bikes that moving was unpractical and unsafe so there we stayed all night.

As they should be, this playa set is a quintessential musical representation of my taste range of the moment.  Starting with super dance floor friendly, sexy groovy ghetto nu-disco, then getting heady mid way, to transition into some proper bassline techno and tech funk break beat, and back into some slowed down feel good closers to set up the hand off to OT resident Grammar who was on after me.   With Carl Cox and then Diplo joining the other OT residents, it was a magical night, just as we hoped it would be. "My favorite set that we played this year at Burning Man was at Robot Heart. It was probably the only set that I really prepared for with Walshy Fire.

I'll be honest I was a lil nervous because I really wanted to make it run with energy for the full two hours and our typical audience isn't that used to a classic dub and reggae set. Myself and the whole RH crew wanted to create something really special for a sunset party and keep it true to the theme but to still feel like a Robot Heart set. The Robot Heart crew had told me that they wanted and entire set that sounded like "Major Lazer - Get Free" and I had to think hard about it. To keep the vibe going for two hours and for that record to be the climax was a challenge but I realized if you stick to your guns for the whole party and steer the audience in a direction and keep them with you, then anything is possible.  I hope you love it.. It's perfect for a party on a Sunday afternoon and represents a different side of Major Lazer"

Icelandic contemporary composer Ólafur Arnalds created and released a new song, one per day for one for one whole week during the month of October 2011. The songs were recorded and filmed live in the living room of his Reykjavik apartment and released instantly for free as streamed videos and mp3 downloads.

Following in the spirit of Ólafur Arnalds’ critically acclaimed Found Songs (2009) now comes Living Room Songs. This time Ólafur takes the idea further and invites the audience into the comfort of his living room, where the songs were recorded live and the whole process filmed. The songs were instantly released in form of a free mp3 download and video stream- straight from Ólafur's Reykjavik apartment.

IN HIS OWN WORDS: ‘One night I was just playing my piano here in this apartment and I was writing a new song and I didn't have my phone on me which I usually use to record ideas. So I actually took out my MacBook and I didn't want to open like a proper recording program, so I just opened Photo Booth and recorded a video of myself playing the song so that I would remember the song. And I really liked the atmosphere of that video and that's when I thought I should do a series of songs in my living room...’             – Ólafur Arnalds


Born in the suburban Icelandic town of Mosfellsbær, a few kilometers outside of Reykjavík, the 24-year old composer has always enjoyed pushing boundaries with both his studio work and his live-shows.
