Pow-Low and PSYCLE.’s relationship continues to flourish as the producer serves up a fourth fantastic single on the label following his collaboration with award winning film-score composer Rainer Oleak back in January.
Pow-Low is a student of jazz star Pierre Favre, graduate of the highly acclaimed US music school ‘Full Sail University’, has been playing live since 13 and releasing music on vinyl since 17. He is skilled on the synclavier system, has worked at the legendary Record Plant studio in Hollywood and as in-house engineer at South Africa’s Bop-Studios. He has mastered music for Peter Gabriel as well as producing huge thrash metal act Coroner and was lead singer and producer of No Religion, the world’s first techno-metal band. On top of this he runs his own event Hertz, which has welcomed many big dance acts, and has been resident at various key clubs in Zurich. Now he shows another side to himself again with this new trio of tracks.
Perfectly warm deep house opener ‘Ghost Note’ takes its name from ghost notes, which are played very softly between the ’main’ notes. They bring the groove alive particularly here, set against funky drums recorded with a vintage ‘70s drum set at the legendary Abbey Road recording studios in London. The track has an epic break with thunderstorm sounds and dubby drones and a jazz tinged groove that brings real colour and heart to the dance floor.
The excellent ‘Cargo Cult’ on the other hand is big and pumping. The singing bassline was inspired by the good old speed garage days and is overlaid with bubbly keys and drones, filtered vocals and smeared pads that make it deep and spacious. A multi-dimensional harmonic break adds another layer and the whole thing oozes class.
Last of all, the superb ’Minigrip’ is a complex, multi-level minimal-techno track that took more than one year to make. It’s lively and ever evolving, with squelchy bass and scattered hits that will make any dance floor restless and energetic.
This is another hugely accomplished EP of richly produced house sounds from Pow-Low.

Whiskey Pickle puts out a solid installment of psychoactive house with Brian Traister’s otherworldly Just Let It All Go EP. As Futureworlder, Traister gives a taste of the alternative planet of his imagination. The Brooklyn-based DJ and producer’s escape unfolds like the unforeseen house expression of a new age past. 

The hazy sun rises over the horizon mirrored in the water as the opener “Forever” begins, awash with warm synths lapping at the shore while revelers weary from the night before are summoned by the steady rhythm of the kick drum to give it another go, tempted by the rising hi-hats and chunky bassline, dancing in the warm sand, only coming down midstream to cool off in the surf and then dance some more in the rising sun. “Energie” follows, quoting an old school, lush deep house flavor complete with warm, enveloping pads and echoing percussion. “I believe good can only bring good,” says the voice on the third offering “Altruism,” and repeats like the clear memory of a party-worn dancer whose flood of endorphins makes him philosophical, hopeful, and unreserved. The voice comes and goes, like a flashback after the night is over, powerful for a few moments, playing on a loop with psychedelic waves that swell and recede over a house beat. “Just Let It All Go” rounds things out, merging a chunkier rhythm section with hypnotic, shimmering synth arpeggiations and swirling strings.

Pow-Low has many experiences as a producer across all genre’s having graduated from Full Sail University in his musical studies, worked under Jazz star Pierre Favre’s teaching and worked as an
in-house engineer at the legendary Record Plant in Hollywood, producing metal act Coroner amongst running his own Hertz events in Zurich and many other accolades over the years.
Here we see Pow-Low deliver a fresh five track EP in the shape of ‘Finobacci’ and the title track leads with jazzy drums, thunderous subs and ethereal pad textures and chords based on the mathematical
fibonacci-sequence, which describes all organic growth, before ‘Jack’s On Dub’ edges even deeper via murky atmospherics, winding synth lines and intricately unfolding percussion with the addition of a
voice-sample featuring Jimmy Jam (The Time) talking about two legendary musical siblings. Their name is “coded” in the track title.
‘Rock Right’ is up next, taking a more peak-time approach with a swinging drum groove, choppy stabs and modulating vocals at its core, ‘Beelzedub’ then strips things back to glitched out percussion,
mind-bending synth whirrs and robotic chimes before ‘Sunking’ closes, originally produced and sang by Pow-Low for his band-project No Religion“ (EMI/Virgin). The song was written as a soundtrack to
the eclipse of the sun in 1999 unfolding half way through before the total eclipse, the track is composed in synchronicity to the sequence of this wonderful spectacle of nature.

The ever eclectic Psycle label welcomes back core artist Pow-Low for a series of three remixes that show off a broad range of excellent styles.  
 
Pow-Low is a student of jazz star Pierre Favre, has been playing live since 13 and releasing music on vinyl since 17. He is skilled on the synclavier system, has worked at the legendary Record Plant studio in Hollywood and as in-house engineer at South Africa’s Bop-Studios, and has mastered for Peter Gabriel as well as producing huge thrash metal act Coroner and being lead singer and producer of No Religion, the world’s first techno-metal band. He has already released to great success on this label last year and has organized (and played) several big outdoor festivals in Zürich. 
 
The fantastic opener here ‘Cargo Cult (Remix)’ has a lively funky beat with elements of 2step and UK garage. The breakdown has sublime sound design, a long reverb-tail turning into a groove and the drums morph into a synth and back to bring a thrilling and floor shaking deep house style. 
 
The superb ‘Fibonacci’ remix is very groove orientated with slamming percussion and rhythmic vocal samples, while the classy chord structure is reduced to rather jazzy chops that will get hands in the air and offer plenty of real emotion. 
 
Last but not least, things turn into minimal techno territory on ‘Dinner Party’ (Original Remastered 2019) which has a swinging-groove and tons of rhythmic granular effects. It has a fantastically big bass sound and more slick breakdowns that show off PowLow’s studio skills and ability to cook up standout chords and modulation-effects which lend the whole thing such class and character.  
 
All tracks here have been artistically crafted with a real depth and warmth of sound that defines everything Pow-Low does.
