Marco Bailey has announced his new Gravity Drag EP, a dark offering which drops on October 21. Its title track is as heavy as its title implies, tying together abundant percussion, cunning synth stabs, and warbly bass into a neat bundle that commands full attention on the dancefloor. It seems as though Bailey is painting a dystopian picture of his sonic future, one which techno fans are likely to ironically welcome with positivity.

Carl Cox is an industry figurehead who’s legacy in music includes his iconic label Intec, which he runs with friend and business partner Jon Rundell.

The new Intec release is from Darren Emerson who many will instantly recognise as being an original member of iconic Underworld, and played a large role in the making of their anthems such as Born Slippy, Cowgirl and Rez.

Darren Emerson left Underworld at the peak of their popularity to follow his solo career, and over the last three decades he has been one of the most influential producers and DJ’s in electronic music.

He has collaborated with the likes of Sasha, Depeche Mode, Björk and The Chemical Brothers as a solo producer, and travelled the globe to headline festivals plus DJ in the world’s best known clubs.

Having also compiled mix CD’s for brands like Global Underground and featured on the front cover of many a music magazine, Darren Emerson is one of the most iconic figures in electronic music’s history, and fully deserved of his legendary status within the House and Techno genres.

“Deadlock” centres around the bubbling acid of a Roland TB-303 to provide the tracks driving force. Fast flowing hi-hats and clap rhythms provide extra momentum, whilst a rising vocal pad adds some subtle euphoria. Packed with atmosphere, this dancefloor focused track is peak time Techno at its best.

“Deadlock (Pure Acid Dub)” does exactly what the title suggests and provides a stripped back version of the original, where some of the parts are stripped back for the raw acid to take complete control. Darker and even more ferocious, this provides an alternative version for those who like their acid rough and ready!

“Catch 22” is led by a pulsating lead synth and tearing percussion which rips through the speaker. The groove has tribal elements brought to life with chanting vocals, which complement the melody part that squeaks pops and bursts with an underlying funk. The track fuses old school sounds with modern production to create timeless Techno.

ELEVATE – a label started by one of the best loved techno duos of the moment Pig&Dan, focuses on releasing music to make the listener feel just that – ‘elevated’. Since its inception in 2012, its seen a stream of hits climb the Beatport charts, featuring artists including Amelie Lens, Monika Kruse, Christian Smith, Julian Jeweil and Matador among many others.

Its 75th release comes from none other than the label bosses themselves, marking Pig&Dan’s 7th solo EP on the label.

Kicking things off, the title track “Starting Again” has a slamming kick and crisp shaker shuffle that sets the pace. It's a driving cut designed for an intense dancefloor experience. The vocals and synth collaborate effortlessly, delivering a subtle but beautiful breakdown.

Deep in those morning hours “A.M.” brings a dark abyss like track with a haunting synth pattern coupled by a bellowing horn. Both dominate the soundscape as vocal echoes escape into the mix.

Modulating low end and funked out percussion stabs roll through “In My Mind”, the filtered vocal leaks delicately in and out of the darkness, whilst the hook emerges in satisfying ooze like form.

Fast pace, old school techno inspiration comes in the form of “Obsession” to close out the EP. It comes at you with bump and swing. It’s got simple but super catchy vocals, rolling between that rhythmic peak time groove.

4. Pig&Dan - Obsession

Drumcode returns with its 6th installment of the internationally celebrated A-Sides series. Renowned for fostering a shared space between industry tastemakers and rising talent alike, the careful curation that goes into each volume is a fine example of why Beyer’s brand continues to go from strength to strength.

Techno titan Adam Beyer has grown Drumcode into a force to be reckoned with; the label has become synonymous with forward-thinking, functional techno and even after 20 years, Drumcode continues to find new boundaries to push, and ways to solidify its legacy as the world’s number one techno label. 

2017 is no exception, with Beyer’s imprint hosting it’s first stage at Tomorrowland, not to mention the expansion of the critically acclaimed Junction 2 where the Drumcode stage is the centrepiece and Adam plays the key role of festival director. The Drumcode phenomenon continues to grow each week, chiefly fuelled by Drumcode Radio, Adam’s radio show that’s broadcast in 57 countries via 86 stations and to a global audience of 16 million techno fans per week. 

The A-Sides series acts as a perfect vignette of Drumcode’s cutting-edge sound; functional yet inspired techno, all tracks tried and tested by Beyer himself. Vol. 6 continues this tradition with a collection of 16 multi-faceted cuts from a mixture of both emerging artists and experienced label friends. 

The heart-throbbing bass in Amelie Lens’ electrifying piece ‘In Silence’ sets the tone for the dark and dance-floor-ready energy that Vol.6 carries the whole way through. Other standouts include Mars Bill’s rough’n’ready ‘Mohave’. Pulsating and precise, ‘Mohave’ has highlighted many of Beyer’s sets recently as has Wehbba’s monster track ‘Fake’, which fans have been anticipating the release of all year. 

Label-favourites Dense & Pika also feature on ‘A-Sides’ Vol. 6 with their hard-hitting ‘Just a Beat’ and a huge track from Beyer himself who has joined forces with Enrico Sangiuliano to bring us their undeniably infectious ‘Preset Heaven’. 

With many more notable selections from the likes of Julian Jewell, Timmo, Tiger Stripes and Pig&Dan, A-Sides Vol. 6 is another impressive addition to the label’s prolific release roster and a testament to why Drumcode remains at the forefront of the electronic world.
