Born in Ibagué, the musical city of Colombia, he was part of various “ensambles de cuerdas” (string arrangement group) at school. He also studied classical guitar at the Conservatorio de Música de Ibagué. Soon after that he swapped his classical guitar for an electric one and started a rock band. For several years he wrote music for different projects, exploring rhythms, melodies and harmonies from genres such as rock, ska, pop, indie and reggae. Within these projects he shared stage with well-known Colombian bands “Los Aterciopelados” and “La Derecha”. He recorded his first EP with an independent record label: “Don Peyote y los viajes del Dharma 1998”

In 2003 and 2004 he travelled to England and then around Brazil and during this time he realised the importance of studying and learning about the music from his own country, from his roots. From this moment he began his journey into Colombian and Latin American folklore. The band “Nubes Verdes” was the result of this exploration into Colombian folk music. Along with Miranda Bungey from England and other great Colombian musicians, he recorded his second EP: “Alegrias y Cocadas” and participated as a guest artists on the CD “Pijao en el Corazon de Colombia”, which was produced and mixed by Maestro Humberto Galindo Palma and Daniel Vina Caycedo in Ibague, Colombia.

He also had the opportunity In 2005-2006 to use music in social care projects in Colombia and experience the healing power of music. These workshops, involving adults displaced due to violence in Colombia and street children and with the use of songs and traditional Andean musical instruments, allowed adults and children to compose and perform their own songs based on their experiences of violence and political unrest. A very positive outcome was the result of using music to help the victims to move forward.  

In 2007 Julián returned to England with the clear intention of continuing playing Colombian and Latin American music and to raise awareness about different issues in indigenous communities in Colombia.
 In 2009 he went back to Colombia for a year during which he recorded his third EP “Tamal con Aguardiente” featuring the talented Colombian singer Heidy Castro. The song “Sueños de Libertad” reached the final of the “Leonor Buenaventura” competition, a national level competition awarding the composition of new Colombian music.

In 2010 he worked for two years for an organisation called Bristol Play Bus that facilitates music workshops for young people in rough areas of the city. Music was again the tool that brought happiness to these communities 

Since 2011, along with his wife, the amazing Cuban singer Indira Román have been working on their project “Indira Román & Ají Pa’ Ti” an upbeat tropical mix between Cuban and Colombian styles. With their vibrant compositions they have performed in renowned venues and festivals, like Glastonbury Festival and recorded two singles so far.    

All these years making music have taught him something very important: music cures, brings peace and togetherness and allows people to dream and express themselves. He will continue expressing himself through music and pursuing his dream of writing songs that heal and trigger peace and love in people.

She has collaborated live and in the studio with Damien Rice, Carly Simon, Fink, Albert Mazibuko (Ladysmith Black Mambazo), Rumer, Aukai, Mirabai Ceiba, Murray Kyle, Martha Tilston, Andy Barlow of Lamb, as well as many other beautiful musicians.

Carrie has self-released 3 studio albums - The Kitchen Table, 'Home To The Invisible', ‘The Canoe' produced by Markus Sieber (Aukai/MIrabai Ceiba), with 2 follow up single’s Sweet Earth & No games.

Carrie is committed to the path of healing and connecting music to projects with the intention to bring ourselves and the environment into harmonic symbiosis.
