Here are this week's bands and new artists that FRUKT FIXERS has been listening to this week. From the twee indie pop of Eliza & The Bear to the grinding deep house of Bryce Hackford, it's 10 new acts you'll be hearing a lot about in 2014.

Sega Bodega 

The latest Glasgow beatmaker to rise to international prominence, the brilliantly named Sega Bodega brings familiar samples and smashes them around with science fiction synths and heavy, heavy beats.

Bryce Hackford

Debut release on a new label from Moshi Moshi, Bryce Hackford makes super deep, rolling house music that fans of Moodymann or Theo Parrish will fall for.

Eliza & The Bear

Indie pop that won't win any prizes for originality, but with Zane Lowe already backing the charming 'It Gets Cold' with his patronage, it looks like a big end of year push for these indie-folkers.

Highasakite

Another week, another impressive sounding Scandanavian band, with the legally standard twinkle twinkle, MASSIVE EUPHORIC MOMENT combo. All good.

Sol Cat

Hailing from Nashville, Sol Cat eschew the city's more familiar country-tinged sound for a more melancholy rock round, not a million miles from TV On The Radio.

Boogarins

New Brazilian band that Pitchfork have already been getting mightily excited about. Great scuzzy hooky psyche rock.

Johnny Rain

With the likes of super-eared tastemaker blogs like Earmilk, SPIN, and Pigeons & Planes already digging this LA r'n'b talent, it looks like a big few months coming up.

Bad Suns

New Californian band which are the latest signings to Vagrant, one of the most successful indie labels in the States.

Ages & Ages

Their first collection of songs won unlikely support from Barack Obama but didn't quite elevate them to the top table, but this comeback single sounds like a massive singalong breakthrough record.

River of Souls is the third enchantment from the hat of Tim Cohen (The Fresh and Onlys) and his band, Magic Trick. Picking up from where he left us with Ruler of the Night (Hardly Art), Cohen brings us ten new intimate tracks, polished as yet unseen. Recorded in The Tree House, his attic studio, River of Souls whirls with parables of change amidst emotional flotsam and jetsam. Insecurities, sarcasm, escapism, optimism, vanity, honesty, and bona fide love... it is all there, but in comforting form. Tim's well-skewed pop songs remind us that things can always be better, but also that what we have is pretty amazing. 

River of Souls signals a new approach for Magic Trick. As in The Fresh and Onlys, Tim has begun to distinguish his muses from those of the foggy San Francisco lo-fi movement that he helped to shape. Mixed at Lucky Cat Studios with Phil Manley and mastered by Paul Oldham, this album exudes presence and confidence. Now, more than ever, the vocals break through the clouds, and the mix champions the artistry in each player's performance. Tim's baritone spars with angelic female chants (Noelle Cahill and Alicia Vanden Heuvel) over the crisp unmistakable pulse of James Kim's drums, and the melodic drive of Alicia's bass throughout. San Francisco's gifted guitar workhorse, Tom Heyman, channels Mark Knopfler; one-man metal mystery, Steve Peacock, brings the right kind of shred; and Marc Cappelle's horns retort the melodies, as Tim jettisons his woes upriver. It is clear with each downbeat the band has honed its language and perfected its chemistry. 

Change permeates this record, but Tim Cohen diehards need not fear. The songs on this album are classic Tim Cohen jams through and through. Still present are the first-thought-best-thought off-the-cuff style and the genre-spanning I-can't-quite-pinpoint-who-this-reminds-me-of assimilation of influences. Still here are the heartbreaking nonsense and the litany of brilliant guest appearances. River of Souls begins with an invitation to "Come Inside". The songs stick with you from that point forward, and what's more... the record ends before you are ready to leave the party. Altogether, this album makes it clear that there is not a man more worthy of thee Muses than Tim Cohen. 

Keeping with tradition, the LP version is presented in a classic tip-on sleeve featuring artwork by Kevin Earl Taylor. The first 500 copies come in half-red and half-blue vinyl.

Your average Chicago juke song consists of one, maybe two lines of lyrics repeated over and over and chopped to oblivion. We love it all but it took the king of nordic juke, Slick Shoota, to take things to the next level with with "F Dat." As the follow release to his Jeffree's debut, Slick brought in Purple to float over this smooth holodeck-sounding juke beat. The story of a lover confused with her crush? We've all been there, F Dat!!!! The tune has been killing it all over the juke dance floors and so it's time to take it even further. To add to the release in perfect fashion, Djemba Djemba and Hoodboi have teamed up to bring the world some next level Miami bass house on the remix. Straight madness is the result with a track that sounds like something that got left off the Space Jam Soundtrack. We're are really excited to see where Slick Shoota is headed and with his take on juke, his range seems endless.

After almost two years since his last full release, Ghost Mutt makes a long awaited return to Donky Pitch for the four track 'Rumble Pak' EP on November 18th. Further advancing his R&B leaning club productions with influences from dancefloor driven sounds from across the globe - the 'Rumble Pak EP retains the signature bass, funk and synth from previous releases and turns up the heat with extra jungle breaks, jersey club and grime for a tough set of dancing music.

Ghost Mutt first appeared on Dutch label Lowriders in 2010, he then released Platinum Skull and Thoroughbred as part of a split release with Slugabed to kick off the Donky Pitch label followed by the critically acclaimed 'Sweat Mode' EP in early 2012. Since then he has remixed both Lockah and ARP 101 x Elliott Yorke, receiving heavy rotation on BBC Radio 1 as well as playing Glade festival, holding down his residency at the Donky Pitch club night and going on a tour of Australia.

The forthcoming new single 'Mesmerise' by Temples, taken from the band's eagerly anticipated debut album 'Sun Structures'.  The record is released by Heavenly Recordings on 10th February 2014 and 11th February in the US by Fat Possum.

The 12-track album was self-produced by the band’s James Bagshaw and mixed by Claudius Mittendorfer. The album will be available on CD, download and double vinyl.
