More than 18 years into their musical journey, The Herbaliser are now gearing up for the release of THERE WERE SEVEN (8th October). It all began in the early 1990s when West London duo @JakeWherry and Ollie Teeba discovered a shared passion for hip-hop, rare groove, funk and jazz. If you are a techno person and you listen deeply into this music you will hear the beginnings of one side of my inspiration to make electronic dance music.  This is the music I grew up listening to.  When I hear some of the reactions from some of my American brothers.. musically they actually thought I was living around the corner from them - which I was, musically. It's funny, we could have almost communicated the same then as you can online now through music. Brothers if you are reading this - don't forget it - we still have an open line of communication. Some people think it's all about the $.

The earlier Essential Mixes were split into 3 parts because of two news bulletins.

01.32am to 02.00am would be Part 3

Most of the available versions of this Essential mix floating around the Web seem to be edited in the wrong order or missing parts of the mix. This restoration is THE definite version. This is how the show run (as good as can be identified).

Solid Steel in association with Serato (31st August) 3 years ago Solid Steel DJs Cheeba, Moneyshot and Food had the idea of collaborating on a version of the Beastie Boys‘ ‘Paul’s Boutique’ album made entirely from the original sample sources, shortly after Moneyshot aired his mix of their ‘Check Your Head’ album in the same way. 

Finally the result is here, titled ‘Caught In The Middle Of A 3-Way Mix’ - each of them have taken a third of the album to work on and combined their efforts into a mix that will make you hear it in a new way. Aside from the original sample sources they’ve included commentary from the Beasties, vintage interviews, demo versions and much more.

The mix was over half way completed when they heard the tragic news of MCA‘s death in May so the impetus to finish it was instantly doubled and new meaning given to the project. It goes without saying that this is also a tribute to Adam Yauch and the legacy he left behind and we hope it will be embraced by Beastie fans around the globe.
