"Down In It" was performed using exclusively circuit bent instruments. A Zoom MRT-3B was used for the drum loop, a Casio SK-1 for lead synth, a Korg Kaosspad was used for fx and the vocals were processed using a Paper Jamz Pro.

Most sounds for "Head Like A Hole" are from a circuit bent Casio MT 240 without the use of midi. A mandolin harp and vocals through a toy reverb mic were recorded as well. All of the samples were then warped and arranged in Ableton Live to fix any timing issues.  The main vocals were recorded on a Neumann tlm 102 microphone and pitched down in melodyne. Vocal performance and arrangement by Kinetic Distortion.

Under the ever-watchful eye of John P. Martin, the Rhode Island-based one-man supergroup Ki(10)z has been a trusted provider of short, odd songs for the past decade.  Strange arrangements of small instruments abound in this dynamic solo project. Or whatever.

For this cover, ki(10)z has used electric and acoustic ukuleles, an Ashbury bass, an electric piano, a toy xylophone, trumpet, kazoo, bongos, guiro, tambourine, egg shakers, bells, a circuit bent  Korg DDD, a midified/circuit bent Korg Monotribe and a passive handmade ring modulator inside a circuit bent function generator.

Pretty Bent Machine is a Maker/DIY/CB/noise tribute to Pretty Hate Machine by Nine Inch Nails.  This compilation features at least 2 versions of each song on Pretty Hate Machine and will have at least one version of each track from the Purest Feeling demos.

We realized that PHM was going to be 25 years old in 2014 and decided to organize a compilation to celebrate an album that has not just had a huge impact on music fans worldwide, but also on musicians who grew up listening to that album and were influenced by it in countless ways.    

Some of these musicians are also artists and engineers and experimenters, so to celebrate this we present (most of) Pretty Bent Machine-a multinational collaborative project featuring tracks made by artists from all around the Americas and Europe.  

Each of these tracks features at least one DIY project, circuit bent instrument, altered effect, misused electronic devices. Some tracks feature noinput mixers using shaped feedback as musical instruments, others feature things like circuit bent drums and live horns mixed together with hilarious perfection, still others are created entirely by instruments made, designed and manufactured by the artist performing on the track.

This compilation reflects hundreds of hours of music lovingly made by dozens of artists spanning genres and continents.  I can't thank everyone who contributed enough!  A fully organized and properly arranged version of this compilation is forthcoming, keep an eye out!
