There's this stigma about downtempo. That it lacks the energy and panache to really carry a crowd off its feet, to really get people moving. Here's the truth: boring people need constant stimulation. Take an artist like Russ Davies, for example. Could you characterize the music of Abakus as downtempo? Sure, though there's a ton of nu-disco hints, indie house flavor, and it begs the IDM sticker, though that's got its own truckload of stigmas.
