Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack of Wye Oak have spent most of their lives in Baltimore, Maryland. But after two years of constant touring with Civilian, their highly lauded 2011 album, they landed on opposite sides of the country with an unforeseeable future ahead. Despite this newfound uncertainty, the two bandmates embraced their physical distance, passing ideas back and forth, allowing new work to evolve in their respective solitudes. Shriek is Wye Oak’s fourth full-length and the culmination of their intent to express the emotional and intuitive self by acting out animalistic exclamations through cathartic release. It is their most personal and confident declaration yet.

Newly inspired by playing bass, Jenn took up songwriting in a setting where the guitar did not dictate harmonic boundaries or require a call-and-response relationship with her voice, a hallmark of previous Wye Oak records. With her phrasing freed, now it is often Andy who interacts with Jenn’s vocals, playing syncopated and meditative keyboard parts, and the duo’s collaborative arrangements provide a backdrop in which both the arcs of melodies and the new rhythmic elements flourish.

To engineer, mix, and co-produce, they brought in Nicolas Vernhes of the Rare Book Room in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, whose inventive and forward-thinking approaches to production complemented their new direction. The result is a record of indisputable humanity. Shriek is a complete narrative of disorientation, loss, renewal, and empowerment.

Viking Viking Viking is a pop-rock hardcore band emerging from Bergen County, New Jersey. Simply formed in a basement with 4 high school kids in 2007, Viking quickly arrived on a more international stage as a full 5 piece group early in their career. With music you can dance to, sing to, and even mosh to, members Dan, Brian, Matt, Alex and Ryan pull off an unforgettable live show.

“We always have something new for each show...we throw out a viking helmet [into the crowd] and whomever wears it is told to do something crazy during our set.” explains bassist, Alex Kanderis. Crowd participation is the biggest factor at a live show. “We've had a kid do a back flip.” Guitarist Matt Kaprielian adds. It's no doubt that the band has seen their share of crazy fans over the east coast, and has brought out the craziest in them.

With influence from a wide variety of artists; heavy and light, Viking has created a sound all their own. “If we write a riff and it doesn't stick in our heads for a week or two we just scrap it.” lead guitarist, Brian Drew says confidently. There is a notable effort in their music to bridge the gap between technical and mainstream, while appealing to both sides of the musical spectrum. “There's a delicate balance between the simplicity of the rhythm and the more complex leads.” Their music explains itself live and recorded.

Recognized by fans and fellow bands, Viking prides themselves on establishing personal friendships with all who support them. “We focus on creating a connection with everyone we meet; not for the popularity but just because we're all friendly and like meeting people with similar interests.” said newest member and vocalist, Dan Drew. In late 2010 indie label BAL Records recognized the upcoming band and had them sign to their first label. They continue to support all local music and the friends they have created.

“Coming from neighboring towns; we are all really close with each other...” drummer, Ryan Normoyle explains “...even related.” Dan and Brian are brothers. Alex and Ryan are cousins. “It's cool to be in a band with people you're so close with.” The bond has always been strong between each member, and continues to strengthen itself. Brian admits: “This is the first band I'm in that I am absolutely happy being in.” Fans of Viking may come to feel as a part of the connection themselves.

With so much progress in such little time and at an accelerating pace, Viking will soon prove to be another act worthy of the biggest national stages. Their 11 song debut album"With Time Against Us" is set to release on Be Awesome Louder Records August 30th of 2011.

His love for DJing and producing has taken him to every continent on the planet, leaving his audience with something to remember - or not to remember. 

Bart B More's genre-bending style has helped him to become one of the most renowned and respected electronic music producers today. He steers away from a traditional production formula to help create his own signature sound: A fusion of deep techno and heart-pumping electro, with an unusual swing in his drum patterns. His eclectic mix of synths, unparalleled sonic range, hard-hitting drops, and heavy bass lines have helped him to create a distinct and original style. The ability to make each beat, synth, and drop flow seamlessly together in his sets, has made Bart a well seen guest at events all over the globe.

Bart does not discriminate against mainstream and underground music, and prefers to draw inspiration from anywhere and everywhere: "The limitations and borders a genre can imply sometimes kills creativity in the producing process, and that's something artists deal with. I try to stay away from that mind frame, and just create how I feel." His non-commitment to any specific genre and ever-changing tastes make each one of his shows a whole new, fresh experience: "Every set to me is a challenge to entertain a crowd, to bring forward my musical taste but also read the crowds mood. And if that's the same thing, that's when I love what I do the most."

In 2008, Bart found a new challenge in his decision to start his own label, Secure Recordings. Since then, the imprint has been an outlet for Bart to release his own music as well as share his various tastes and musical range. By creating Secure, he's able to showcase not only his own style, but also give new artists a platform to release their music. Bart is a firm believer in supporting new and up and coming artists.  In establishing the label, he's been able to give them a chance to make their mark in the industry. 

In addition to Secure Recordings, Bart has had the opportunity to release many of his tracks with some of the industry's top labels: Spinnin' Records, Boysnoize Records, OWSLA, Relief Records, Sound Pellegrino, Fool's Gold, and Trouble & Bass - allowing him to reach an even larger and more diverse demographic, thrusting him into the spotlight of many devout electronic dance music fans. 

Along with collaborating and working with major labels in the business, Bart has also written and produced for the likes of Rita Ora and Example, as well as remixes for Katy Perry, Cee-Lo Green, Tiesto, Chris Brown, Wiley, Galantis, Martin Solveig, Bingo Players, and Peaches amongst many others. 

In the future, Bart B More hopes to continue to have a key role in keeping dance music forward thinking, innovative, and open minded.
