2020 was a year when we all needed beams of light at the end of the longest, darkest tunnel the world had found itself in decades. Instinctively, the Selador community rose to the challenge, none more so than Kiz Pattison & Micah, whose collaborative debut was a massive breakout tune from our Tenth Chapter showcase EP.

As DJ streams and dancing on impromptu dancefloors at home became the norm, Beam of Light became a regular feature in many a lockdown soundtrack, a major tune for the likes of Sasha, Anthony Pappa and of course our own directorship, Seaman & Parry. So with the vaccines arolling, club and festival dates being firmed up in our diaries and that beam of light seemingly growing brighter by the day, what better way to celebrate than with a top drawer remix package?

Booom! We are delighted to welcome Brazils techno don Renato Cohen back to Selador. Here he zeros in on the first of the original mixs killer hooks, the 80s styled motif that starts and ends the track, and builds an electro throbber that sounds like the Human League through a sparkling rave filter.

Oooof! Kiz & Micah then themselves deliver a new take, the 4am Dub, a darker, moodier interpretation of their original, showing off their deeper tendencies, like a big sister luring you over to the darker recesses of the dancefloor.

Pow! Long-time friend of Selador Robert Babicz, takes the hook from the originals showpiece drop and delivers a low slung breaks driven re-rub custom made for all you dubwise bass bin lurkers. And theres more its a Babicz double drop as he tenders an ambient mix that gives all those magical synth layers maximum room to breathe, gently building on the breeze.

Kerching! Were not finished yet! Its VFM time as Kiz and Micah deliver a brand new bonus track, the afroacidtechfunk workout that is The Key. Not to be missed, this beauty deserves its own moment in the spotlight, twisting and turning its way to instant earworm central.

And there you have it, the futuress so bright we gotta wear shades.

Israeli Diploid finally lands on ICONYC with one of the tracks of the year so far, aptly named 'Way Too Long'. The track has been causing havoc since it's limited promo release earlier this year and has been played by a wide array of the big boy brigade. 'Way Too Long' delivers a slice of positive summer vibes to get you dancing into the sunset. 

Diploid starts proceedings excellently, as he lets the encouraging vibes shine through, while we stroll effortlessly through the club inspired melodies on offer, topped only by the outstanding vocals on offer to bring this classy piece of music together. Diploid's trademark beat manipulation is prevalent, as all manner of elements drift in and out of earshot that culminate in a grand finale for the beat loving club crowd and to get you in the mood for a big night out. 

Label favorite Black Space, who needs no introduction created a rework full of tension from the word go, as the atmospheric vibe subtly keeps you moving with warm tinkling sounds, a smooth edge and some nicely effected sounding pieces. We basically have the formula for a bit of a monumental outing. The sparseness is the key here, as their restrained gem works its magic while it plays away, creating a warm glow, creating an air of sophistication. "Essential stuff from Swiss maestro Black Space once again!"

The second remix comes courtesy of Italian producer Reboq, known for his polished melodic techno influenced productions, keeps the ethereal theme of the original alive, as the pulsating bass powers along, before its drum fills and general warmth all combine to do the talking. His transcendent touch up takes the energy levels up a notch, but increases the melancholy with stripped back and lucid elements at the same time, before the luscious pads grace the rework changing the vibe and creating a blanket of warmth that wraps around the effected groove.

With 'Way Too Long' Diploid really shows that there're no boundaries, as this beautiful melodic gem guides you to a full-on club laden, melodic hug of a release that will cause many smiles induced moments! The final release of 2021 on Darin Epsilon's Perspectives Digital features two powerful and emotive tracks by talented Turkish artist Gulec.  The young producer showcases a glorious musical language of rhythm and melody through his "Rush" EP.

With over a decade of experience in dance music that began by creating playlists for local radio stations at age 8, Gulec has been on a path from his early days of producing Trance music and matured into an impressive producer of Progressive House and Melodic Techno.  Previously channeling his talents into a string of powerful releases under the name Mehmet Gulec, his music found its way into the playlists of the DJ glitterati including BT, Paul Van Dyk, Markus Schulz, and Solarstone, among many others.

As a performer, Gulec has a successful DJ career that has taken him across his native Turkey – in Istanbul, Cesme, and Bodrum – along with a series of high-profile gigs in the Middle East.  Sharing the decks alongside established stars such as Sezer Uysal, Mahmut Orhan, Murat Uncuoglu, and Lunar Plane, Gulec's maxim that "melody is the key to communication" is further demonstrated in his debut EP for Perspectives.

The title track "Rush" is a glorious tour de force that bristles with dynamic brio.  A heavy beat and syncopated bassline form the foundation for ticking hats to sit atop before a shimmering arpeggio lilts across the mid-range with effervescent ease.  Rising and falling in smooth waves, dance-friendly snare rolls give subtle aural cues to the listener, while a searing glissando lead makes its presence felt during the stripped-back breakdown.  Building toward a powerful denouement, the second half bursts into multi-faceted layers of sound where the main lead, arps, and rhythmic force blend into a rousing finale.

"Freefall" continues the rich melodic dynamism of its predecessor as an immaculately cadenced bassline nestles easily amongst a whip-cracking kick and swung percussion.  The synth holds firm in a filtered arpeggio phrase while a glassy counterpoint motif adds emotion and a light, airy touch.  White-noise textures roll across the breakdown before Gulec's production prowess provides a launchpad for the melodies and sounds introduced in the early stages, to build again in the second half to mesmerizing effect.

About a year on since his first incursion on Stil vor Talent with the acclaimed "Cosmic Silence" EP, Italian-born Berlin-based producer Cioz resurfaces on the label with "Be One Wachaka", the first single taken from his forthcoming debut album, "Supermassive Whole", scheduled for release in late December 2022.
