Quest is one of those new school selectors who have taken the art of crate digging to an all-new level. Italian-born, Berlin-based but having spent time in London working at the legendary Vinyl Pimp, he has long been mining the depths of everything from UKG to outré techno, Italian hip hop to long-lost house. Importantly, he uses those sounds to tell his own stories, often with an air of mystery and intrigue that plays out like an adventure into the unknown. 

Many mixes follow a traditional arc of increasing energy levels but in this week's podcast, Quest plays with those expectations to build up and then pull back, threading together minimal rhythms then raw and crunchy wave sounds. Twisted electronics lead into celestial acid and the smooth and seductive sits next to the dark and edgy. It's a low-key, low-lit selection that draws from mutant strains of house, techno and electro that are both futurist and dystopian. Quest might be his moniker, but it is also a perfect description of his mission.

With early releases under the name of Downkill between 2005 – 2010, not much is known about Frenemy. With beginnings within Progressive House & Trance styles, Frenemy has returned with this exclusive signing to Private Business with a dark form of ambience and sub-sonic beats that delves deep into your subconscious.

ACT1 starts life with low pitched, whale like warblings that swirl within a sea of ambient clangs and whistles which grow around subtle pads. 
As we move mid way into this journey, precisely programmed glitched percussion is introduced but never loses grip of the tension of what's going on. 
A very fitting 1st track that sets the mood of what's to follow.

ACT2 carries the mood forward with a down beat with a light kick drum which carries the 4/4 groove with authority alongside a deep one note Sub bassline and sharp metallic synth stabs, when combined with subtle use of echo delay, a very dubby track is performed to perfection.  
As with ACT1, atmosphere and mood remains but with more variation with the sounds. Whilst there is isn't a stand out defined melody, the track grows with the deepest of sub harmonics that on repeat listening, it continues to produce the most subtle of musicality.

ACT3 immediately grabs you with a solid kick drum and what could be described as a helicopter effect. More upbeat than ACT2, ACT3 brings this E.P to it's climax, again with precise glitch percussion complete with variation that never lets the groove become stale.
As we quickly evolve, a side chained pad bounces off the beats with the introduction of up front crunchy percussion. Things are swiftly made way for a tube driven bassline. As it takes center stage, the bassline drops down the entire track with intense filtering and echo, it quickly flutters away letting the groove return. Just like the previous tracks the mood is maintained throughout.

All three tracks have been skilfully put together. It can be heard that everything is forming purpose and thought. All three tracks listened to combined send you on a journey that's consistent and believable, where your heart gradually pounds faster as you reach the end.
