"A respected name within the progressive house fraternity, Forerunners makes a welcome return to Meanwhile with his first full release in the shape of the “Ancient Methods” EP.
 
Operating out of his Arizona home, Brenden LaBonte has consistently found himself at the forefront of a distinctive underground house sound with his Forerunners soubriquet. An advocate of the ‘quality over quantity’ maxim and a sound that is full of maturity and quality, the US artist has seen his music allied to a plethora of high-profile imprints that include Anjunadeep, Silk Music, and Black Hole Recordings.
 
Now returning to GMJ & Matter’s flagship imprint after a spell-binding interpretation of Mike Isai’s “Home” in July 2021, Meanwhile’s 21st release sees Forerunners open his “Ancient Methods” EP with the mesmerising title track. Full of melodic poise and rhythmic interplay, a driving beat and tight off-beat percussion heralds a dynamic opening before a mechanic bassline and syncopated groove create the foundation for delicate motifs to lilt their way across the 8-minute track with ease. Delay-infused effects and pitched synth add to the aural atmosphere at the breakdown as a sustained pad holds sway throughout to create a subtle tension and hypnotic vibe.
 
The complex rhythmic foundation that infuses the oxymoronic “Light in the Darkness” is a powerful forerunner for the deep melodic melange to follow. As running bassline and swirling effects build, a dizzying breakdown of looped arpeggio provides sonic intrigue and bright, uplifting zenith. Exploding into the third movement, an hypnotic melody sits against oppressive bass and rhythm to create a magical track.
 
Continuing the dark rhythmic narrative of its predecessors, “Valis” provides another sonic tapestry filled with texture and innovation. Beneath a ticking percussive groove and chest-thumping kick, an effects-laden and pitched oscillator bassline reveal themselves across the 6-minute offering as a mesmerising arp creates a powerful melodic presence in the mid-range. Science-fiction inspired effects that the Future Sound of London would be proud of, infuse the breakdown as the second half drops into the huge bass-heavy underpinning once more.
 
Redolent in modern and innovative production technique and a cutting-edge sound, Forerunners brings a scintillating new approach to “Ancient Methods”."

Next to strike the ever-blossoming Pro B Tech discography is burgeoning talent and label debutant, Andrew Winstanley.

In-keeping with the vibes of which fans of the label will now be accustomed, title track 'Logical Machine' is a slice of hypnotic progressive house oozing character, melody and other-worldliness.

With Winstanley's original standing proud, owing to it's mesmerising qualities, it's left to a troop of able cohorts to deliver a varied but brutally effective selection of remixes. 

No stranger to the label having released a number of well-received records on Pro B Tech in the recent past, New Zealand's Nila takes to the helm in the first instance for a deep-seated, brooding re-interpretation, with melodies remaining centre stage.

Jonny Burg is next to remix, adding further traction to a reputation quickly gathering momentum. Burg delves deeper still with a blistering, progressive roller destined to find favour with many as both early and late night weaponry.

The release also sees a welcome return of Manchester DJ/producer, Ian Dillon. Dillon wastes little time in extracting some of the principal melodic impulse of Winstanley's original piece, though a brace of bass-laden creative bursts also leap to prominence to deliver a unique rework.

Favourite of both Pro B Tech and sister label BTech Noir, Kiz Pattison completes an impressive assemblage of remixes. As is customary in Pattison's work, the remix is lavished with dark, evolving and trippy techno moods; ensuring an deliciously anomalous interpretation of Winstanley's brainchild.

It took no less than 15 years of DJ’ing before Sandeep finally found his way to the studio, resulting in a remix for, and several collaborations with, die Stube Records founder Hollt. Sandeep’s long, deep, progressive and atmospheric sets have paved the way for his first ever solo EP, ‘The Deeper Dreamer’.

The EP kicks off with the story-telling ‘The Deeper Dreamer’, built on a solid foundation of drums, a slightly filtered kick and several dreamy synths and pads. With the delicate and dreamy original fitting for those longer sets in dark basement clubs, Hollt’s reinterpretation has a slightly coarse sound in comparison, yet making it a day-dreamy track for those hazy afternoons.

For Whom The Bells Toll is special collaboration between Sandeep and Australian based cellist Wilma. After having met online, the two artists worked together on this slightly melancholic, deep house an neo-classical music cross-over gem. Listening to the original during the night, the acoustic version will suit any Sunday morning.

Jaap Ligthart makes his return on the Dutch MNL label, and this time his buddy Saléh is tagging along for the ride! The duo have joined forces one time before when they've released their 'Peak EP' on Sonic Union's Lowbit imprint in 2018 so it was about time for a refreshed collaboration.

'Kunstkruimels' is warm, groovy and dreamy. A tune that will take you on a trip to dreamland whilst wiggling your rump in the process.

The first remix comes from fellow Dutchman Deeparture (Days like Nights / Anjunabeats / This Never Happened / Songspire) who adds a healthy dose of melodic emotion with his roaring synth work.

Secondly it's Santo Adriano from Buenos Aires who pours the perfect amount of that trademark Argentinian prog flavor in the (re)mix to approach 'Kunstkruimels' from another angle.
