This disc really was the soundtrack of my pre 'proper clubbing' days trying to get into the bars and clubs of Sunderland City Centre. This CD features some absolute bangers like Tony Di Bart's 'The Real Thing', Hard Drive's legendary 'Deep Inside', Felix's 'Don't You Want Me", Sub Sub's "Ain't No Love" and well... the list really does go on, and on, and on, and on. I hope you all enjoy this mix as many of us have. Play it LOUD!

It is not everyday we are sent a 5 hour mix from someone we have asked to join our Phonica mix series; but when Sheffield & Manchester legend Luke Una sends one… you have to jump straight into it! Having become first recognised in the late 80’s and 90’s as one half of production team “The Unabombers” with Justin Crawford, Luke over the years has shown to be a master in all genres be it Balearic, to Brazilian to E soul, House, Disco and Techno, you name it! With his Worldwide FM show over the years gaining a cult following Luke has gained an even more of a broader crowd from his curation of his E Soul Cultura compilation series via the label Mr.Bongo (Both comps topping our EOY lists in 2022 and 2023). This exact vast taste (that is displayed in these compilations) is very much pummelled into this five hour journey of a mix like a piece of clay and sculpted into a fine piece of art. There’s no denying it: Chicago is one of the best places in the world for music. The city that gave us Kanye West and The Smashing Pumpkins is also, of course, the birthplace of house music, and it’s still a fertile hotbed for the electronic music scene’s stars of today. It’s not a coincidence that a lot of them gravitate towards Smartbar, a 400-capacity nightclub that’s been the centre point of the local nightlife landscape since 1982. The club’s residents are as good as it gets anywhere in the world; even Frankie Knuckles called this place home back in the day. One of the best-loved parties is Queen! Sundays, especially when it’s Derrick Carter and Michael Serafini on the controls. But Smartbar is much more than a house club, and the cutting-edge music policy that takes in everyone from Elena Colombi to Josey Rebelle has only cemented its legendary status. 

Smartbar resident DJ Heather prepared a mix of high-energy house heaters to channel the vibe of the club when its dancefloor is at its peak.
