Radio excerpts from 1979 are like historical artifacts frozen in time.
Hundreds of thousands of ears were listening.

In the late 70’s, it was a privilege to broadcast expertly mixed urban dance music, to the listeners of New York City and vicinity.

Extra long overlap mixes were my signature style before drum machines made that easy.
This tape captures a slice of musical life before the advent of drum machines.

Drum machines eliminated the need for skilled beat matching and began the change to digital recording.

Wherever possible, original versions were edited into better remixes not available at the time.

Personal:
I departed WBLS abruptly to become an A&R director for Capital/ EMI Records.
(That led to co producing Atomic Dog with George Clinton.)
Shep Pettibone was the DJ I tapped to replace myself at WBLS.

After being absent from DJing for decades, this tape is one of a few WBLS broadcasts recently converted to digital format.
