From the 2020 COVID-19 Saga, The Day The World Stood Still is reflective of the fog and isolation of social distancing; the zombie-like trance and shuffle of the population as daily life struggles and fails to continue with some semblance of normalcy. At the time of its recording, a fog continued to envelop the world, but not without some hope of eventually lifting to reveal a more auspicious future.

“Becoming” is a reflection on a past dive into deep depression. With the exception of percussion, this track was recorded entirely on guitar (including the ambient bass, and “ghost” sounds).
Abuse can affect anybody, regardless of age, gender, race, creed or any other defining factor. Often, the victim begins to believe that the abuse is justified, and “becomes” the very thing the abuser sees. The process is long, slow, and very painful, but there is always hope for escape and renewal of a fulfilling life.

Becoming

Recovery from an illness or injury is often a waiting game. Adrift through time, as days become weeks, and weeks become months can feel like being swept out to sea, with no sight of land on the horizon. Ride the waves, brave the rough patches, and float on. Landfall will come to those who patiently man the sails.

Recovery

Zìrán (自然), “self so,” or “natural.” A staple of Taoist philosophy, the acceptance that things are as they are. This song was written and recorded following recovery from surgery to reattach several tendons and muscles which were completely severed from my left arm. Truly, this is the song which would define the direction my music would take going forward.

Daydreaming

Five years before we met, I saw you in a dream. I will never forget those eyes. We knew each other in a past life, and it was clear that our souls were forever bound together. “We will meet again” you had told me.  Now here we are, never to part again.
