No man´s land

As part of the Ten Days On The Island Festival, Tasmania in April 2025 The Intonarumori Trio got asked to perfrom at The opening of "When The Fog Clears" ( in which I had a sound installation exhibited). This little snipper is from the warm up rehearsal, recorded in a vast open room  with concrete floor and ceiling the sound played and bounced around. We haven't played togather for a bit over a year so it great to shake off the dust here before hitting the festival - and that bang at the end is the sound of an Intonarumori snapping a string !! The Carpenters are the Favourite band of all my celebrities.

Their songs have been a part of my childhood, my teenage years and even
now. Especially Karen's voice.
She had a fairly deep, medium-range voice, warm and colorful,
with an exceptional tone.
She was not only a singer, but also a very talented drummer.
Her brother Richard also has an extraordinary voice and does a lot of
backing vocals.

Their two voices alone amply cover the harmony of their tracks.
They're Unique.

I love this song; it's well-paced, as well as the bass and especially the drums.
For me, this song is very hard to sing, 
because the key starts off very low and rises quite high,
and the tempo also increases.

Honestly, I struggled to keep up with the rhythm in both choruses.
As I was saying, my voice isn't what it was 20-30 years ago. 🙂

Only Yesterday - Cover (Carpenters)

This track is my very personal take at the Koan "Hear the Clap of your Hand". My lyrics version (https://soundcloud.com/konrad-spittelberg/the-clap-of-one-hand-pp) might make things clearer. (yes, this is my sneaky strategy to guide you from one song to another :-))

Compositionwise, the track is roughly split into two equal parts. The first part introduces its cinematic theme in the very beginning, taking it thereafter up several times with slightly different accentuations and rhythms which gives it a fresh feel with different highlighted nuances in each repetition. Several interludes contribute to the cinematic feeling. 

The second part, starting @1.53 starts by a more Jazzy version of the main theme. However, from 2.20 onwards, it is very restricted in its harmonies - only two harmonies are used from thereon until the end, C major and C# major. The tension arises purely from the rhythmic changes (such as the shift from 4/4 to 3/4 @3.17 and back), climaxing at the end.

Another dream. This time, no words. “She Emerges” unfolds in imagery: The ground hums. A totem carves sky from earth. From behind it, a presence—Hanim—slips forward. Her movements are ancient signals, her rhythm pulled by a drum only the soul can hear. Each gesture conjures fragments, memories caught in light. Then vanishing! She returns to shadow, as if summoned back by something older than time.
