Rencontre

A bit of 60s/70s inspired Gothic Horror. Imagine Mary Shelley and the gang, stoned out of their skulls, alternately telling and writing horror stories in a dark, haunted house by Lake Geneva. It is, of course, a dark and stormy night and there are strange things afoot. The Daffodils won't leave them alone, and there is something in the woodshed. Ken Russell is directing them.

All made with Arturia VST's, mainly the B3, Vocoder, Mellotron, CMI, Clavinet, Mini and Pigments. Mastered with Ozone, but pushed to the limit to give some extra retro.

Mental Travelling

Think an insane John Lord reincarnated as a 12th Century mathematician playing the outro for a John Carpenter movie. I toned down Lord Fibonacci's insanity... a bit.

The drums are slightly timed to the Fibonacci sequence. Slightly. Now isn't that proggy? ;)

Mats says 'This is very different. It is your most commercial track yet'. Mats is Swedish. I'm unsure as to whether he meant this as a compliment...

Mainly Arturia Analog Lab VST's plus Pigments and a few Ableton stock instruments. Mysteriously mastered with Ozone.

I was listenning to a lot of Primal Scream for a while, and this sort of came out of that. Been chewing on it for a while, wondering whether to make it longer or do something more fancy with the Hammond. But not.

Despite the image this is all VST's - Arturia mainly, the B-3 and SEM mainly, with Pigments on the lead. Drums are stock Ableton (Disco Arcade and Landlourdes kits)

Written in 2001 for a planned metal style collaboration with Mikael Åkerfeldt, this song has been revisited several times since, but I could never really make it fit the style of whatever I was doing at the time.  In the meantime the album with Mike finally happened, but in a completely different style to the album we planned 10 years ago (it's coming out in April).  So finally here is the orphan song Cut Ribbon - this is the latest version from the 2010/2011 Grace For Drowning sessions.  Gavin Harrison on drums (recorded in 2008), all other instruments SW.
