The chiaroscuro take on the first track sets the tone for the entire release. The contrast between the light airy pads and gloomey bassline on 'Prima Lux' makes for one of the artist’s most captivating compositions yet. 'Ante Lucem' follows in the same vein, amping up the dynamic factor by way of glitched out synth stabs and tintinnabular bits. 'Luna Crescit' unveils a sulky collab with Lil Magdalene, a strikingly lush arrangement accented by exotic chord instrument chops and compelling rhythm changes.

Hungarian producer Palmfood takes on remix duties for Prima Lux, switching up dynamics and infusing dramatism through tense buildups and ample breakdowns. Darin Epsilon needs no introduction to the underground dance music faithful. An array of leading imprints play host to the US producer's work that include Katermukke, Einmusika, Sudbeat, and Renaissance, amongst many others. 

An artist with a permanent seat at dance music's top table, Jerome Isma-Ae is a DJ and producer renowned and revered by fans and peers alike. An accomplished multi-instrumentalist with a music career dating back to the mid 90's, a number 1 US Billboard hit remixing the Nightcrawlers and reworks of Paul Van Dyk, Faithless, and Way Out West, has seen Jerome continually hit the summit of a notoriously fickle industry. Nominated by Beatport as a best-selling artist on multiple occasions, his unique blend of Techno and Progressive House has witnessed almost 1,000 production credits and a string of chart-topping hits.

2015 saw a shift in the German producer's music as a deeper, darker, and more nuanced sound went hand-in-hand with a new collaborative partnership with US producer, Alastor. Combining Jerome's pounding beat and meticulously crafted basslines with Alastor's gift for atmospheric melody and rich chord progressions, the duo have penned a series of high-profile original releases alongside a plethora of remixes for JOOF, Anjunabeats, and Babiczstyle. Yoshitoshi’s Four Points series is about celebrating the vibrancy of different international dance cultures, bringing producers together from four “points” across the globe to create something truly special. Now in its 3rd iteration, we’re buzzing off the contributions to Four Points III. Each artist on the package brings their signature sound to the release, but we find consistency throughout in the melodic and groovy style of the music.

Representing Paris, France is Olivier Giacomotto, whose smash EP “Elle / Lui” was one of Yoshitoshi’s recent highlights. His track “Breath” picks up where the EP left off, continuing the dark and trippy journey Olivier is becoming known for. The track is full of beautiful, fine details, shifting constantly through new sonic territories that leave dancers in a state of awe with its absolute funkiness.

Next we have a collaboration representing both US coasts, with DC-based Enamour and LA-based Rinzen pulling out all the stops on “Quark.” Each of these guys has bubbled up strong over the past year and “Quark” demonstrates exactly why. The track is a case study in precision-engineered production, with grandiose synth builds and riffs that flex like muscular tissue around the track’s backbone, a wildly dynamic and punchy groove.

Representing Vigo, Spain is Aaryon, who made his Yoshitoshi debut in January with the Nos EP. “Atica” dabbles in the sort of cool, nebulous, and experimental techno that makes Aaryon’s sound so intriguing. It’s perfect for easing into the night or bringing down a crowd that’s spent the last few hours hopped up on sonic steroids.

Last but certainly not least is Corren Cavini from Tilburg, Netherlands, who won our Splice remix contest last year for his remix of PQM’s Yoshitoshi classic “The Flying Song.” Corren’s mix grabbed our attention with its slowly developing sequences and clever use of the original vocal. Corren’s remix is a stellar example of how you rework a classic.

Release Info: 
Following his successful Collider EP last year on Yoshitoshi along with his remix of Luzon's classic 'Manila Sunrise', Khainz is back and this time with a bag full of gems. We're delighted to announce the Swiss wunderkind will be releasing his third artist album (and first since 2012), Fingerprint, on Yoshitoshi in June of 2019. From this upcoming album we have extracted the Reflect EP; a teaser that features three of the album tracks, each representing Khainz's production range and studio wizardry. 

We kick things off with Next, a perfect intro track that sets the stage for the energy to come. The track begins with slow and heavenly synthesizers, teasing listeners for a while with fluttery melodies before dropping into one of Khainz's signature, stomping grooves. Beautiful phrases continue throughout, making Next the kind of track that makes dancers close their eyes and feel every moment. Next comes Reflect (no pun intended), a tune you may have heard in an episode of Yoshitoshi Radio, as it's been a staple of Sharam's sets for months. It picks up right where Next leaves off, with a dark, impending vibe that develops into a huge melodic techno banger. A mysterious vocal hook appears throughout the track which is sure to get stuck in your head, as anyone who's heard the track thus far is aware. Finally, it wouldn't be a Khainz release without some hard-driving techno, and Reconnect delivers on that front. The tune is impeccably produced, each drum hit and bass sound carefully sculpted in Khainz's sonic laboratory for maximum force. This one will find a happy home in the crates of DJ's who need a secret weapon for peak moments.

If these three tunes are a preview of what's to come on Fingerprint, then we're truly in for something special (and, having had the privilege of hearing it, we can assure you that's the case). Khainz continuously sets a high bar for both the quality and quantity of his productions, churning out amazing tracks like a machine. An inner tension, or even a certain unrest is in the air as soon as the first notes of R.EK’s new track “Krills” cut their way through the ear canals — a track with a catchy hook that brings back memories of old school techno from the 90s.
The track doesn’t evoke a paralyzing unrest, but quite the opposite: It unleashes something deep inside. While there is this constant, menacing knocking on brittle walls coming from the background, resistance arises, and an assertive determination emerges. “Krills” represents the audacity when people stand up and fight for their liberties under unfavorable circumstances; when — exactly because of the constant threat — they keep on dancing in protest.

About R.EK
Being resident DJ at Hive Club in Zurich, Switzerland for several years, R.EK has established a reputation as an artist who is able to capture the mood of the audience, and to incorporate it into his live DJ set. During the last two years, R.EK was working on fine-tuning his live sets, and he spent hours in his studio working on his own productions. After “N.T.E.” and “Hold It”, “Krills”
is already the third single released in 2019 on KnotenMusic.
