Long-time Berlin underground mainstay Michael Vater aka Phonique, makes his debut on the label Kindisch in form of his Petra EP. For the 4-track release he teamed up with the duo Fairlpay, that made appearances on labels like Bar 25 Music and Stil For Talent.

In German literary tradition, there’s a type of novel called the bildungsroman. A typical bildungsroman follows a hero’s trajectory from birth to adulthood, charting their scrapes with reality and confrontations with chaos, until they finally emerge – a little scratched and bruised, but holding a hard-won nugget of enlightenment. Sanoi’s new self-titled album is a bildungsroman in deep house form, tracing the artist’s growth and fall from innocence, his confrontation with reality and eventual reconciliation with the vastness of the universe.

By the sixth track (‘Asmodi’), the strands of the narrative are starting to come together. In the Avestan language, Asmodi is the demon of wrath, and you can hear Sanoi battling that demon in the twists and oscillations of the saw wave bassline. And even as they fight, there’s a sense that the protagonist is discovering a way to tame this demon. As he gains his balance, flickers of innocent joy start to show themselves again; piano hammers and crisp pitched percussion cast sunlight over the battle scene.

Claptone, the mysterious DJ and producer announces a new set of remixes for lead album single, Just A Ghost feat. Seal. Taken from Claptone’s anticipated third studio album Closer, which has been co-produced by the legendary producer Stuart Price, (Dua Lipa, The Killers, Madonna, Pet Shop Boys and more).

The multi-platinum selling DJ / producer Vintage Culture leads the remix package, with his special rework, alongside forthcoming remixes from Jan Blomqvist and Black V Neck set for release on Oct 1st.

Just A Ghost feat. Seal was originally released earlier this month, marking one of the most intriguing collaborations taken from Claptone’s new album. Now, the single takes a new direction in the form of Vintage Culture’s dance-infused production style. Designed for the main room at peak time, as well as fitting in perfectly at a festival, it is a powerful melodic remix with a dark tech infused edge, full of emotion and building euphoric energy. Staying true to Claptone’s original production and the unmistakable vocals of Seal.

Brazilian artist Vintage Culture is on a roll with a string of notable reworks for the likes of Rufus du Sol, Meduza, Moby, Diplo, David Guetta & Sia, and collaborations with artists including Jorja Smith. 

Set for release on November 12th, Closer has been in the making for over three years and showcases a natural development in sound for Claptone. The aptly titled album is the next phase of the enigmatic artist’s musical evolution following the 2018 LP, Fantast and the 2015 debut, Charmer. 

Closer will be released via Different Recordings / [PIAS] and features a host of global collaborators including Barry Manilow, Seal, James Vincent McMorrow and Peter Bjorn and John. The album balances both iconic names with established artists and exciting new talent as Claptone enlists Mayer Hawthorne, Mansionair, APRE, Dizzy, SPELLES, lau.ra, Two Another and long-time Claptone collaborator, Nathan Nicholson, ex-singer of The Boxer Rebellion.

"Normally I know that high expectations kill the vibe, so I always try to walk my way open minded and don’t expect anything special from the future, but this time I couldn’t help it. When the Robot told me that she wanted me to play the sunrise set and that we will be connected with the Mayan Warrior soundsystem, I could feel it already in Berlin a full three weeks before… Then when I finally took the bus over to Robot Heart it was even better than in my craziest expectations. This gig was by far the most emotional gig I have ever played. All I can say is thank you, I am even more happy now to be born on this weird planet which can be really beautiful sometimes, when you give it  chance to be free. Thank you you for dancing with me and giving me so much Love. So here is my try to give something back.

The human body is the most highly engineered object in existence, a machine of uncountable parts and unfathomable function. Its workings have served as inspiration for all of humanity's greatest inventions. This work is an homage to the two most amazing mechanisms in that machine: the human eye and hand. The head is a 16 foot camera obscura demonstrating the ray optics principals underlying the spherical lensed eye humans posses and the hands are actuated mimicking the tendons and bones of the body. Together they represent what separates life from the rest of the universe, the ability to observe the world around us and manifest change in that world.
