"Finding his groove on Meanwhile with a clutch of impressive productions, Alex O’Rion has been a regular on GMJ and Matter’s best-selling imprint. Reaching a highpoint with May 2020’s “Echium” EP, we now return to O’Rion’s seminal work with remixes from a trio of outstanding artists.
 
And iconic name within the underground dance industry, Eelko Wijnja has forged a distinctive and innovative sound through his Navar soubriquet. A regular on the likes of Guy J’s Lost & Found, Roger Martinez’s Higher States and Cid Inc.’s Replug, the Dutch star makes his Meanwhile debut with a typically rich and evocative interpretation of “The Chase” that flows gloriously across its near 8-minute journey. Built upon deep kick and rolling arpeggiated synth line, familiar motifs from O’Rion’s original float into sonic range as deeply textured pads and evolving percussive groove wend their way forwards in delicate fashion. An array of sumptuous additional production, courtesy of deep bass and sympathetic new melodies, make their presence felt as the track explodes into the second movement with dancefloor grace. The result is a dynamic interpretation that places Navar at the upper echelons of dance music royalty.
 
Another familiar name to the Meanwhile cognoscenti, Simos Tagias made an impact via his March 2021 twin-track “Euphoria / Emotion” EP, before September saw a remix of Imran Khan’s “Horizonz”. A veteran of over 400 production credits dating back to a debut for Lynx Records in late 2012, the Greek artist now reworks “Echium” with typical aplomb. Taking the machine-gun hi-hat pattern of the original and a 16th note bass sequence, the meandering melodic themes of O’Rion’s work resonate across a dynamic rhythmic framework. With raw, seething power, Tagias builds intensity that pauses for breath at a haunting breakdown, drenched in reverbs, delays and the stunning motif central to “Echium”, before exploding into the third movement with shimmering effervescence and club-friendly groove.
 
The final remix sees another Meanwhile favourite enter the fray. An artist who has grown in stature with a slew of releases on the likes of onedotsixtwo, MNL and Proton Music, Sebastian Sellares hit the ground running in April 2021 with his “Dunes at Dawn” EP. This musical triptych showcased the Argentinian’s skill and artistry, while a remix of GMJ’s “Precipice” two months later was another label highlight. Working his production magic on “The Serpent”, Sebastian Sellares has found a way to illuminate the musical phrasing of the original while creating a spotlight that shines on an array of new production material, simultaneously driving the track forward with potent rhythmic force and effortless bassline presence. The result is a searing lead line, rooted in O’Rion’s original, that cuts its way through the second half with acetylene precision, perfectly illustrating Sellares’ sought-after production credentials.

On remix duty two strong names from the progressive and organic house scene, which would be called "deja vu" of top musicians, and in this case are RIGOONI and Fabri Lopez!

'Darin Epsilon's Perspectives Digital imprint picks up the pace in 2019 with its 66th release! UK duo Collective States return to the label with their highly anticipated "Cloud Jumper" EP. 

With a rich musical heritage to their name, Dan Reid and Gary Benetton have hit the ground running under their Collective States production moniker. The past two years have continued to see a clutch of high-profile releases on Stil Vor Talent, Toolroom, Knee Deep in Sound, and Selador, placing Collective States at the vanguard of the underground dance scene. The duo is supported by a galaxy of A-listers including Sasha, John Digweed, Carl Cox, Pete Tong, and James Zabiela. Furthermore, their breakout hit "Planet Mongo" was picked up by Carl Cox for BBC Radio 1 and remixed by the iconic Alan Fitzpatrick. 

After a standout remix of Blaktone in May 2018, they return to Perspectives with a debut original EP for the label. "Cloud Jumper" revels in a shuffling percussive groove, pounding beat, and grooved clave riff that lay the foundations for a hypnotic arpeggio to filter into sonic range as it builds in intensity to the midpoint breakdown. Rising and falling with veritable ease, the track explodes into life in the second half with the arpeggio cutting through the mix like an acetylene torch. 

Fueled by a similar percussive groove, "Graded" keeps the energy high with its combination of 808 shakers and open hats. A throbbing bassline plays its part in creating a club-friendly cut that hits its stride with an analog arpeggiated riff. Haunting vocal phrases and textured pads then create a strong juxtaposition. Building effortlessly into the breakdown and beyond, all rhythmic and melodic elements combine in the second half to impressive effect.'

Premiere: Collective States - Graded [Perspectives Digital]

November 2018's "Life on the Moon" confirmed Juan Deminicis' status in the upper echelons of the underground dance scene. Remixes from Argentina and Europe now continue the journey on Particles.

Lucas Rossi has been an impressive contributor to Argentina's underground dance scene for almost a decade. From his Cordoba home, a residency at "Bianca Espacio Electronica" saw impressive performances with Darin Epsilon, Matias Chilano and Deminicis himself, while gigs across South America have seen him perform on the same bill as Jimmy Van M, Dave Seaman and Eelke Klein. A production career that has seen over a century of credits hit a stream of high-profile imprints after a 2014 debut for Suffused Music, has since found Rossi's work on the likes of Songbird and Balkan Connection, while a further notable highlight was an appearance on Nick Warren's The Soundgarden with the "Adversities" EP in May 2018.

A pair of Particles remixes for Lanvary in October 2017 and Kynan Cosma in September 2018 are now joined by a third as Lucas Rossi delivers a compelling rework. Paying tribute to Deminicis' track, the refrains of the original create a familiar framework before the melodic phrasing so central to "Life on the Moon" cleverly lifts itself out of the rhythmic groove. A strong beat, white-noise washes and airy pads create extra depth in a strong remix.

Striving to be an "original and unique artist, with his own style of music", Filip Abramczyk has been a standout performer in Poland's underground dance scene. Through his Pysh moniker, the Warsaw resident hit the headlines after winning a remix competition for Booka Shade's "Regenerate" and going on to perform regularly across Poland and Europe alongside Robert Babicz, Kolombo and Josh Wink. This springboard for success has led to over 250 production credits sitting proudly next to the Pysh name with an album and vinyl release for Einmusika high on a list of achievements. A regular for the label, other work has seen him featured on such heavyweights as Get Physical, Manjumasi and Steyoyoke.

A spirited Particles debut remixing Rudy UK in June 2018 quickly saw the release of the five-track, "Ballada" some three months later, as remixes from Matias Chilano and Christian Hornbostel added to a trio of impressive original tracks. Now returning, the Pysh remix of "Tao the King" takes the pulsating bassline of the original and uses it form the basis of a rhythmic groove foundation that anchors the tracks against a collage of panned shakers and closed hats. Building with consummate ease a chorus of melodies firmly rooted in the original make their presence felt at the breakdown. With clever production technique and a swathe of original production material Pysh has created a unique and impressive remix.

Remixes from Lucas Rossi and Pysh have continued to showcase "Life on the Moon" for Juan Deminicis.

Michael A has been a regular on Proton Music since a "Bright Hope" landed in early 2017, heralding a clutch of original releases over the following eighteen months. Now returning to the label after a remix of James Warren in February 2019, Michael A showcases "Geometria" alongside remixes from Argentinean and Italian stars.

With a glorious rolling groove providing the rhythmic framework for a cadenced bassline to work closely in tandem, the title track is a typically accomplished affair. Simultaneously, a rippling arpeggio filters into sonic range, waxing and waning with ease and coming fully to the fore at the mid-point breakdown before erupting into extended octave range in the second half, creating a stirring and emotive piece. Partner track, "Wildwood" continues with another wonderful bass groove, locked-tight against an intricate percussive phrase. Continuing a penchant for rich melodic interplay, a sublime arpeggio rises and falls while a series of freeform counterpoint melodies and analogue leads play off each other to create an organic and unconstrained feel that comes into full force in a second half.

Fresh from an outing on Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat with the "Bugs and Blossoms", Juan Deminicis returns to Proton Music, following up on November 2018's twin-track "Life on the Moon". A busy 2018 had already seen releases on Spanish imprint Seven Villas, Dutch leviathan Click Records and a stunning collaboration with Jimmy Van M for Plattenbank, while regular outings on the Visceral compilation series has kept Deminicis at the forefront of underground music's cognoscenti. Now returning to Proton Music following up on March 2018's remix of GMJ's "Push Through", Juan Deminicis has taken "Geometria" and treated it to a delicious reworking as a cavernous sub-bassline bristles with low-end menace while a shaker-fuelled groove moves dynamically across the upper frequencies. Before long a rich arpeggio with its roots firmly in Michael A's original supplies additional rhythmic interplay creating an epic dancefloor gem that is certain to be a hit with club-goers across the globe.
