Garnier, the Grand Seigneur of Techno, surprises with his first EP for 50WEAPONS.

Known as pioneer and influencer of the global electronic music scene, internationally respected DJ and the undisputed godfather of the French techno scene, Garnier is always in touch with the emergence of new artists and genres. His music career has always been about integrity. Worth mentioning is the re-edition of Laurent Garnier’s book “Electrochoc”, which was released in 2003. The book is a journey through electronic music history via Laurent Garnier's career, starting in 1987 until the present day.

Nonetheless his release for 50WEAPONS doesn't at all sound like the “the French touch” one would expect, but pairs the dark sound of 90ies techno icons Underground Resistance with bleepy acid lines.

Here Garnier reiterates his close working relationship with the underground and shows once again his skill and rigour as a producer.

Typical Garnier basslines flirt with the Retro Charme of Chicago and the roots of house music as well as his own. There's a reminiscence of ”The sound of the big Babou” one of his great hits, but it seams like a version stripped down to the streamlines of an underground club between 4 and 6 a.m.

And quite the star, Monsieur Garnier garnishes his EP with a B side full of conoisseur hit potential. With its shouted vocals and driving bassline H.E. Is a killer of a swinger.

The EP, entitled AF 4302, is distinguished by an organic, raw, acid-flavoured techno sound. Three tracks and three different moods in which Garnier reinvents himself and takes his music to new, unchartered territories.

These tracks are razor sharp and should be handled with care!

A craftsman who's roots go back to when he was a club kid in a time when his profession and scene more or less came to life in Holland. The original version of ‘Surrender’ was by Detroit Grand Pubahs and first appeared on their 2004 album ‘Galactic Ass Creatures From Uranus’ on Poker Flat.  Paris the Black Fu had initially written the lyrics for a woman, so he recently approached Xenia Beliayeva about doing a cover version for the Pubahs’ Engineroom label, and here are the results.  Her new rendition is also accompanied by remixes from André Winter, Mr. Jones and George Lanham.

Xenia Beliayeva has spent the last decade building her reputation in dance music, starting as an industry professional, freelancing for labels like Playhouse, Klang Elektronik or Mute Records, A&Ring at Ladomat and their Danced Records offspring, as well as managing her own label, Lone Records, before launching her DJ career back in 1997.  It wasn’t long after that she turned her hand to production, with releases under her belt via labels like Datapunk, Different, Systematic, Shitkatapult and more recently DJ Pierre’s Afro Acid.  Known as much for her vocal talent, as her DJing and production work, she’s blended them like a fine art.

Her new version of ‘Surrender’ fully utilises these three skills, laying down her own vox interpretation of Paris’ lyrics, over a more dancefloor friendly electronic workout, while still maintaining the melancholic moodiness of the original.

Xenia’s long-time partner, André Winter presents the first of three remixes.  This German producer has worked under many guises and released on labels including Confused, Bush, Low Spirit, Ministry, Superstition and more recently, Ideal Audio.  Though not entirely devoid of vocals he delivers a more instrumental feel for his remix that offers a deep alternative for late night sessions.

The Netherlands own Mr. Jones, known for his releases on the likes of Bass Pressure and The Public Stand as well as his Unsubscribe collaboration with legendary techno don, Dave Clarke, takes ‘Surrender’ down a darker, more industrial avenue.
