This track started with some interesting strings recordings Tom made, where he arranged the instruments in terms of their frequency range, from the lowest in the centre to the highest on the edges. He provided my with a few unused recordings of this session and I sort of brutalised them, in as much as the end result sounds nothing at all like the original recordings. I just liked the timbre and texture that occurred when I cut them up, with each hit being a complex mixture of chords, one bleeding into the other so that a lot of the samples are quite impure melodically.

It just turned into an experiment of what I could do with these odd melodic units, or quanta of the original tentet, hence the name - Quantet. In the end I went for a very simple stripped back approach, nothing too unexpected or complex in this one, but hopefully a nice mood, that was the aim anyway.

This track is about emergence from the combination of polar opposites. Fragments of self from very different places, but part of the same whole.

Combining classical and computational elements is something I've been experimenting with for some years, but this attempt to combine the extreme opposites of each was spurred on by some chance DJing experiments, a fortuitous collaboration opportunity, and the amazing work of my friends Olafur Arnalds and Vaetxh (Rob Clouth). I found that I could mix the most beautiful and delicate piano solo of Olafur, with the most hyper-edited and jarring glitch of Vaetxh, and that the result actually worked, well, for me anyway, even if half the people in the club stood confused about how to dance. So when the opportunity arose to work with the pianist and composer Tom Hodge, I wanted to try and create this form of merger of extremes for a release, rather than it being confined to my DJ toolbox (also on the classical meets glitch history from a slightly different angle, check out "Rossz Csillag Alatt Született" from Venetian Snares 2005!).

After some discussion of ideas and approach with Tom, he sat and played and made some recordings for me, which I then chopped and build chords and structure around, sent them back to him to play over the top of again, and then back to me to edit and glitch the playing along with the nasty noises. My detailing process was that of finding some interesting sound sources (binaural recordings, drum hit samples, clangs and slams etc) and using some Max for live randomisation chains to generate lots of partially random complexity which I could then edit as audio before repeating the process with additional layers, eventually bringing the recorded piano audio in to the editing too.

At completion of the audio I was really happy to find out that Nick Cobby, one of my favourite video artists and long standing collaborator, was available and interested in working on the visual side of the project. He took the combination of seemingly incompatible opposites, and applied it visually with his beautiful generative forms, smooth and organic for the melodic sections, and jagged and abrasive for the percussive sections - big thanks to Nick for his amazing work as always!

So, that's probably enough ranting about this track from me, aside from why it is like it is, I hope it's something that you can enjoy irrespective of the conceptual faff.

As one of Europe’s most in-demand mixing engineers Hannes has built an untouchable reputation, with an exhaustive client list that includes some of the biggest names in contemporary house and techno. In 2017, after 11 years in the world of mixing and mastering, Hannes decided to shine a spotlight on his creative talents as an artist, emboldened by years of experience, a renewed zest for production and a lifelong romance with electronic music. 

Since then, Hannes has focused his energy on producing his own music and building an unforgettable live show. A debut EP and follow-up for Steve Bug’s Poker Flat, releases for Audiofly’s Flying Circus, Alex Niggemann’s Aeon, and a remix for Monkey Safari, alongside his ‘Bedrock XX’ contribution, have seen this masterful German artist rapidly recognised as a talent that cannot be ignored. Now, his four-track ‘Stars EP’ raises the creative bar ever higher.

The title track is a wistful, pensive vocal trip showcasing the amazing Juan Hansen from Buenos Aires, whose soothing voice is the perfect juxtaposition to Hannes’ drama-tinged composition. The past couple of years have seen this supremely talented, trained composer/musician/vocalist, rapidly becoming legendary in the clubs of Argentina, guided by an exemplary ethos of mixing genres without prejudice – if you haven’t already, check Juan’s recent ‘Kobalt EP’ collaboration (BEDDIGI124). ‘Stars’ is a masterclass in subtle genius with a distinct emotive edge, swirling with delicious energy and teasing acidic motifs. It also comes in an equally engrossing, stripped-back ‘Dub’ version for those less vocally inclined.

‘Scoria’ is a pacey, sinister cut with contagious energy and unsettling atmospherics, further highlighting Hannes’ deft creative skills. The track’s dancefloor-driven attitude and complimentary brooding arrangement results in an entirely distinctive individualistic take on the techno blueprint. The highly hypnotic ‘Titan’ is a gloriously jittery ride, featuring layers of spine-tingling electronic wizardry over an infectious percussive groove – a perfect finale to an exceptional EP.

It was born out of a happy accident while we were soundchecking for a concert and Mohna was improvising vocals to the piano. After we had played it a few times live I decided to record it. The song has changed completely from its initial acoustic version.

To celebrate Steyoyoke’s 7th Anniversary, we are releasing a 4 track EP - Anniversary 07 - in both digital and vinyl editions. A small showcase of some of Steyoyoke’s best original cuts, this short release exists in the space between traditional and Steyoyoke’s trademark Ethereal Techno, highlighting the talents of select artists on the roster.

The release begins with the mysterious and refined ‘Cadence’ by Soul Button. A strong, consistent baseline is paired with with echoing details that dance from the mid to higher layers, making this an enchanting introduction.

Nick Devon follows on perfectly with his diverse track, ‘The Moon’. Beginning with the same soothing echoes, he introduces layers that transform the track from a soothing melancholy to a compelling mix with a distinct harder energy.

Clawz SG’s track ‘Alchemy’ then brings a sharpness to the EP with a diverse range of percussive and synth elements that dip in and out, giving the track a dynamic quality. It is a track that maintains the listener’s attention and could fit in on any techno floor.

The EP is brought to a conclusion with a stunning mix from Dahu & JOBE, ‘Inert’, which set itself apart from the get-go with a mix of eclectic percussion and dynamic bass. Not afraid to experiment, it shows impeccable attention to detail as themes are introduced, pulled back, reworked, and re-introduced constantly throughout, giving a listener more with every replay.

This EP showcases some of the most dynamic points of Steyoyoke’s past year, showing the ways in which Ethereal Techno can mold and adapt to always stay ahead of the curve.

"A Colombian artist with a rapidly growing reputation for producing high-quality underground progressive house, Kamilo Sanclemente continues to impress from his Cali home in the southwest of the country. A regular on the likes of Clubsonica Records, FSOE UV and Darin Epsilon's Perspectives Digital, some 200 production credits can be found against his name in a prolific period between 2017 and 2018. August 2017 marked a debut for Particles with the three-track "Revelations" EP, followed by "Eva" in May 2018. January 2019 marked a debut for Proton Music in the shape of the beautiful "Spiral Patters". Joined by sometime collaboration partner and fellow Colombian, Dabeat, the pair saw the track remixed by iconic Brazilian artist, Andre Sobota. Coming together on a clutch of blue-chip releases for the likes of Soundteller and BeatFreak Recordings, February 2019 marked a high-point for the duo with the release of "Your Smile is Priceless" on Mango Alley. Now returning to Proton Music, Kamilo Sanclemente and Dabeat have created a wonderful interpretation of "Purple Rain" that sits upon an intricate percussive framework. The central melodic theme of the original punctures the mid-range, intelligently effected to create a new cadence, while a glorious array of additional production material makes its presence felt through rippling arpeggio sequence and rich pads. The result is typically impressive result that illustrates why the duo's sound is proving so popular.

Another South American pairing of burgeoning reputation, the Brazilian duo of Demitros and Dante Pippi continue to "awaken evolving minds" with their unique blend of ticking percussive grooves and dynamic melodies. Both successful artists in their own rights, the pair have found their work allied to a selection of high-calibre imprints that include Balkan Connection, One Of A Kind and an outing on the successful Visceral compilation series. Moreover, a high-profile remix of Pole Folder in August 2018 paved the way for the four-track "When You Get There" EP which featured a reciprocal mix from the iconic Belgian DJ and producer. Gaining further traction at the end of 2018 with a remix for UK trio, Trilucid and Phil Martyn, it is an honour to welcome Demitros and Dante Pippi to Proton Music with their reworking of "Grey Rain". Immediately recognisable with its intelligent use of the bassline so central to Peter Makto and Gregory S' track, a pulsating percussive rhythm is joined by a raft of new melodic phrases and arpeggiated sequence. Evolving elegantly, the track hits its stride in the third movement with a dynamic combination of broken-beat rhythm and melody that is certain to find favour with club-goers across South America and beyond.

Remixes from Kamilo Sanclemente and Dabeat and Demitros and Dante Pippi have continued a torrent of creativity in Peter Makto and Gregory S' "Purple Rain".

Release Info: 
Globally renowned electronic tastemaker Sébastien Léger is on a mission to bring timeless club music back to the forefront. In a world of short lived hits and quickly passing fads, he is focussed on music with a more lasting impression on his own brand new label Lost Miracle. It kicks off with two standout originals from him plus a remix from Tim Green and starts the imprint in fine fashion.

Léger has been making music and playing clubs around the world for two decades now. Impossible to pin down stylistically, and someone who has turned out both underground gold and huge mainstream chart toppers, he has been associated with the most influential labels of the day, but now branches out with his own exciting new platform that reasserts him as a vital voice in the global scene.

Lost Miracle has been in the works for a year now and comes after Léger has produced and unearthed some music that he feels doesn’t fit anywhere else. “I’m looking for instant classic feel,” says Sébastien. By this he means new, fresh, arresting music that also works in the club. “I’m looking for melodies and elements that truly stands out from the rest: the genre doesn’t matter to me as long as it remains house music.” As such you can expect anything from deep to funky, happy to sad, so long as it stands out and will be more than a one week wonder, something that sticks long in the memory.

The visual aesthetic of the label is influenced by Sébastien’s love of Asian art, culture, fashion, food and architecture. The future will bring Lost Miracle’s own clothing line as well as music from artists Léger loves and respects and has a personal relationship with, plus some special label parties around the world.

Lost Miracle kicks off with a fantastic new single from Léger that fully fits in with his mission to craft classic club tunes and features a remix from Tim Green who he has been a fan of for ten years.

The single stays true to Léger’s mantra of going with the flow in the studio and feature two tracks of very different styles. He says “Skadi was written in my studio few months ago, the whole melodic base was made in my gigantic modular system, I jammed and recorded it, then built the track around the line. Forbidden Garden was a very long process, it had at least five different versions and after many versions I finally finished it last year. This is actually an old track now for me, but it matched my idea for B sides of the label.”

Superb a-side Skadi is a big slice of disco, progressive and funk styled club music with uplifting and magical melodies. It really gets under your skin and will send you away humming the top line while you sway your hips to the lush beats. B side Forbidden Garden is more organic, mysterious and moodier. It is ten minutes of house music that takes you on a real trip through worldly percussion and enchanting lead synths that casts a fantastic spell on all who hear it. The remix from hit maker, Cocoon regular and UK stalwart Tim Green is a deep and hypnotic cut with drums that sway back and forth and an exotic lead synth that really makes your mind wander. It is a supple and subtle pice that cannot fail to make a mark.
