Progressive Selections | June 2020

Following the massive success of Omniverse, which saw support from some of the biggest names in the scene and reached the Beatport progressive house Top 10, Second Sine returns to Yomo Records with a stunning 3-track EP.

I Was There is a driving progressive gem featuring Andrej's signature sounds including heavy percussion, techy stabs, and atmospheric textures atop an irresistible groove.

Tape Wreck is even more on the techy side of the genre and immediately grabs you with its rolling bassline and cavernous synth stabs. The break with its haunting, complex harmonies allows you to take a little breather before the pounding beats drop back in again.

Within My Heart once again showcases Second Sine's immens production skills. With its lush, almost housey chords and sprinkles of reversed saxophone the track is a deeper affair, yet with enough punch to keep you going on the dancefloor.

Born and raised in St Louis, Missouri, Will DeKeizer is the focus of our next release, offering up three delicious slices of progressive beauty in Metamorphosis, Moon Escape and Floating Frozen In Time. To round off this exceptional release we have enlisted Macedonia’s progressive wizard, Kandar, and Argentina’s Ivan Aliaga to give us their unique takes on Metamorphosis and Moon Escape respectively.  

Will DeKeizer comes armed with over fifteen years of classical training in piano and saxophone, and also first started to dabble in the electronic production world some fifteen years ago. Citing early musical influences such as Pink Floyd, Vangelis and Tangerine Dream, and more recent electronic influences such as Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren et al, it is easy to imagine the musical delights that Will is capable of creating, and after first coming to our attention last year via his amazing track, Karma, which featured on our compilation, Electrique Boutique - compiled and mixed by Steve Marx, it was only a matter of time before Will released his own EP with us. 

The EP begins powerfully with the title track Metamorphosis; an infectious slab of progressive breaks driven by an enveloping, rolling and evolving bassline, while ethereal atmospheric pads skim effortlessly over the top of a tight broken beat. Moon Escape follows in a more traditional 4/4 progressive format, featuring an addictive growling bass, shimmering key lines, playful subs, vocal stabs and a hauntingly beautiful piano melody, which all combine perfectly to create a timeless piece of dance floor ready progressive heaven. The third original, Floating Frozen In Time is a real journey piece. With a rumbling bassline driving the track forward from the off, and strong reverberated pads and shimmering percussion setting the scene for an epic expedition into the unknown. Next up, Kandar takes on the title track and puts a solid 4/4 spin on it. Definitely one for peak time excursions with a spine-tingling breakdown worthy of a festival stage. Last, but not in any way least, Ivan Aliaga gives us his take on Moon Escape, giving it a deeper more heads down feel while retaining and building on the euphoria created by Will’s stunning piano work. The track chugs and glides simultaneously with hypnotising ease, proving once again why Aliaga is one to watch.

Tryger Feat. Alexandra Pride - Where I Belong (Club Mix Edit)

The latest release from Clubsonica Records finds the label showcasing the 2022 edition of its MMW Sampler. Long a testing ground for some of the underground's freshest new music, Miami Music Week sees artists, DJs, labels and industry brands travelling to the long-standing event, searching for what will be the spring and summer seasons biggest records. The global pandemic cancelled the event's previous two years but now with the world opening back up, the 2022 installment moves forward with great anticipation. Pre-covid 19, the MMW Sampler was a staple in Clubsonica's release schedule, and now makes a triumphant return with exciting new music from (in order of appearance): Alex Bessofen and Pablo Arbelaez, Andre Moret and NAHS, Emegepe, Mir Omar and Ric Niels.

Opening the release are Alex Bessofen and Pablo Arbelaez. Also finding favour with world class DJ Hernan Cattaneo, Alex and Pablo continue on an upwards trajectory with 'Mezcal'. Aimed squarely at a peak time dance floor, the duo marries electric rhythms and striking percussion with driving beats and pulsating grooves. A stunning array of effects delights across the first act, sweeping in and out of the stereo-field as crunchy arps add texture and momentum leading into the second of two breaks. Rising modulation continues to elevate mood as the interlude builds to a sonic sizzle, before giving way to a vortex of noise as the groove drops for a thumping finale.

Selection two finds Andre Moret alongside NAHS. Now, joining forces for the first time, Clubsonica serves as the perfect landing spot for the duo's collaboration entitled 'Brava'. Deep and fluid throughout, the duo's sleek designs are mysterious yet hopeful, tactfully merging for a momentous mindset-style groover. Looking to bring greater emotional depth, the main break adds colour through arpeggiated phrasing and cinematic overlays, gently building anticipation onwards to a glowing apex and purring final movement.

Next up is Emegepe. Presenting his first project of 2022, Emegepe now makes his Clubsonica debut with 'Multicoloured Puff'. Played out over eight minutes, its tightly-knit groove and hypnotic rhythms set the foundation for an evolving atmospheric narrative. Ghostly wails and timeless chord stabs come in waves across the first act, playing off layers of driving percussion, while sweeping effects carry into the main break. Stripping down to a cavernous ambience, the interlude builds anticipation through striking overlays and colourful arps, before giving way to a stripped-down drop and intoxicating finale.

The sampler's lone remix is provided by Mir Omar. Now with the demand for new material at an all-time high, Mir makes his Clubsonica debut with a gorgeous rendition of 'Induction' by Mental Order and Tim Othy. Opting for a bigger, more peak-time approach, the American artist focuses on a strong rhythmic narrative, with layers of hip-swinging percussion and buoyant tonal themes fueling its infectious drive. Landing in a timely fashion, the main break resonates with great strength, juxtaposing shape-shifting atmospheres over warm sub bass, onwards to a driving finale.

The release concludes in fine style with Ric Niels. Ric returns to round out the MMW Sampler with 'Who Knows'. Well in line with the previous selections, its striking beats and free flowing, energetic style conjures up colourful clubland images. A marriage of trippy effects and driving percussion blankets a tight, compact groove, perfectly setting the stage for a cascading lead theme. The main break is set to delight dance floors with its whimsical charm and mesmerizing build, the latter of which smoothly shifts energy into a chunky, percussive finale. Mature and well composed, it rounds out an excellent 2022 edition of Clubsonica's MMW Sampler, one where a combination of new and veteran talent come together for several magical moments.

Antrim returns to the label after two years with a sensational new EP.

Getting his big break back in 2013, by Nick Warren selecting his 'Blow Your Mind' track for his Renaissance CD mix set the scene for the ambitious Argentinian. A DJ since he was 14, music was always going to be his career. Now signed to everyone from Beat Boutique to UV by way of seminal labels such as Hope Recordings and Plattenbank, the Antrim sound permeates dance floors the world over.

Opening with 'Stax' we're quickly immersed in a soundscape of warm melodies and crunchy drums. Analogue-y and raw, the tracks glides along with ease. Synth sweeps ebb and flow like ocean waves breaking on the shore giving urgency when needed. Next up, 'Summer Morning' continues the warm, early floor vibe. Spiky synths brace against snappy percussive layers creating an organic drive and tension. Vocals midway lift the track into hands-in-the-air territory. Finally, 'The Ocean Sun' closes the EP in fine form. Raw, crunchy drums form the bedrock once more, quickly followed by deep and uplifting pads. Dreamlike throughout, the track develops into an early morning smile-inducer with nods of early Orbital.

On their debut Dekkai lead with the outstanding opening title track 'Paradox; a stunning driving melodic progressive house affair. The track utilizes a deep groove as foundation, underpinned by a profound bass and smooth synth chords that gradually ease their way to the summit. Unified by a relentless kick drum and dusky atmospheric emotion, the composition climaxes by adding recurrent percussive elements and soft soaked melodies that come together to create a structured sphere of sonic satisfaction. Clever synth phrases complete the picture and create an ingeniously worked piece of art.

The darker soundscapes of the accompanying title track 'Temple of the Snake' round off this spectacular release. Dekkai's influences are immediately evident as subtle freeform concepts drift through percussive inspired instrumentations. Rippling melodies trip along a deep kick that anchors an auricular montage to create a special sonic infused moment, accompanied by a subtle chord line that is going to leave a mark on your aural perception. Essential stuff!

Dekkai have developed a unique style which endeared them to us; having establishing their credentials as masters of their craft. With their debut outing on ICONYC, Dekkai take their talents a step further to round off this brilliant underground 2 track crowd pleaser. Canadian express Minicied makes his way back to our Progressive House Worldwide division as he delivers another progressive trance anthem, this time baptized as “NTSA”. This is a real curveball, packed with energetic elements, throbbing kick drums and as always his powerful melodic arrangements that we do think will take you on a real journey from start to finish. 

On remix duty we thrilled to see Ukraine based progressive and trance predator, Mobil who we now see making his way back on the label. He is a producer that we have always been huge fans of and we are delighted to see his return. He delivers as always in full flare, rolling chord progressions and soothing melodic arrangements that bring on that energetic drive in his productions. We absolutely love it! 

The second retake is delivered by French progressive wizard Jeremy Go who also makes his way back to our family. He is a producer known for his driving productions that is packed with melodic layers that defines his true talent for the genre. He brings on his full artillery of sounds yet another time with his remake and surely is to take you on a journey, not to be missed.

From the slowly building atmosphere of the original with its intricate progressions, exquisite chords work and Jan's own vocals, this is another one for the books in its apparent simplistic beauty, exuding both warmth and melancholic power.
Completing the package are two different remixes from Japan's own Yusuke Teranishi, the first a vocal take on the original and the second his soon-to-be trademark 'Dawning' remix, excellent examples of melodic complexity and sun-drenched vibes, respectively.
