Ending the year on a high having witnessed a plethora of musical highlights, Meanwhile has been a shining beacon for progressive house throughout 2021. Now, Australian, Mike Rish, becomes the latest debutant to showcase his talents on GMJ & Matter’s blossoming imprint with the 3-track “Beyond” EP.

From his home on Australia’s south-eastern coast, Mike Rish has witnessed an impressive rise to notoriety, courtesy of a clutch of high-profile releases on an exclusive set of blue-chip labels. Not wanting to flood the progressive house scene with a swathe of formulaic dance music, the Melbourne resident’s “selective output” is based on a carefully thought-out commitment to “keep people engaged, but also wanting more”. Thus, Rish’s work for the likes of Colorize, Serendeep and Juicebox Music, has seen the Australian carve out a sizeable niche for himself, further enhanced by March 2021’s 12-track “Interlinked” album for UGENIUS Music.

Opening his Meanwhile account with the “Beyond” title track, a chunky beat and cavernous bass groove sit tightly against off-beat hats and snare. Filtering into sonic range, an elegant arpeggio provides glorious melodic interplay as white-noise washes and meandering pads pulse gently across the near 10-minute piece. Full of spine-tingling atmosphere, additional melodic phrasing is introduced at the breakdown before extending into the third movement with ease, combined with a raft of effects and masterful touches.

A bouncing bass groove immediately finds “Mindgame” oozing with hypnotic force and low-end menace. Sat perfectly in between deep kick and ticking hats, a flowing melodic line ripples across proceedings as it rises and falls with filtered dynamism. Twisted vocal cuts and acetylene-edged synth effects pitch with glissando range adding to the aural collage in a track full of dark and mesmerising beauty.

Closing the EP, “Here For You” is characterised by an intricate percussive arrangement that introduces a subtle melodic backdrop. Effects and textured pads span the stereo stage in modulated glory as a pulsating lead melody enters the fray in the second movement. Building steadily before revealing itself fully in the stripped back breakdown, the second half blossoms in commanding fashion with a pulsating confluence of rhythm and melody. The result is a track that illustrates Mike Rish’s unique talent and technique.

A musical triptych full of innovation and sonic narrative, Mike Rish has gone above and “Beyond” with a glittering display of production prowess.

Future Blueprints is a celebration of the upcoming generation of producers who are making their own unique mark on the scene, and gives us a snapshot of the excellent quality and imagination out there amongst the next wave of progressive artists. 

First up, Argentina’s Agustin Pengov gives us ‘SEIA’, a melodic masterstroke which oozes class and manages to remain both subtle and furious in the same breath. 

The goose bumps continue as we stay in South America, but move next door to Uruguay with ‘Distance’ from Alex Efe & Diego Barrondo, two of Uruguay’s hottest exports, who regularly collaborate, and it shows with this blistering ride of a track. 

Next we travel to Sydney, Australia, by way of Sam Cooke, AKA Covsky, who proves he really is one to watch on the Aussie new school scene with this emotive heads down groover called ‘Whole 9’. 

We head back to South America, but this time we land in São Paulo, Brazil and are greeted by Gorkiz and his anthemic  ‘Intuition’. 

A second collaboration is next up, and this time we are spanning the globe with Serbia-based Hobin Rude and Argentina’s Nicolas Benedetti and their sublime ‘Orhidea’. 

Last, but certainly not least we close this compilation with the fittingly titled ‘End of a New Era’ from Buenos Aires’ Matias Ocaño. An emotive and melancholic gem. 

We are left in no doubt that the future of progressive house music is in very good hands.

Finding his groove on Meanwhile with a clutch of impressive productions, Alex O’Rion has been a regular on GMJ and Matter’s best-selling imprint. Reaching a highpoint with May 2020’s “Echium” EP, we now return to O’Rion’s seminal work with remixes from a trio of outstanding artists.

And iconic name within the underground dance industry, Eelko Wijnja has forged a distinctive and innovative sound through his Navar soubriquet. A regular on the likes of Guy J’s Lost & Found, Roger Martinez’s Higher States and Cid Inc.’s Replug, the Dutch star makes his Meanwhile debut with a typically rich and evocative interpretation of “The Chase” that flows gloriously across its near 8-minute journey. Built upon deep kick and rolling arpeggiated synth line, familiar motifs from O’Rion’s original float into sonic range as deeply textured pads and evolving percussive groove wend their way forwards in delicate fashion. An array of sumptuous additional production, courtesy of deep bass and sympathetic new melodies, make their presence felt as the track explodes into the second movement with dancefloor grace. The result is a dynamic interpretation that places Navar at the upper echelons of dance music royalty.

Another familiar name to the Meanwhile cognoscenti, Simos Tagias made an impact via his March 2021 twin-track “Euphoria / Emotion” EP, before September saw a remix of Imran Khan’s “Horizonz”. A veteran of over 400 production credits dating back to a debut for Lynx Records in late 2012, the Greek artist now reworks “Echium” with typical aplomb. Taking the machine-gun hi-hat pattern of the original and a 16th note bass sequence, the meandering melodic themes of O’Rion’s work resonate across a dynamic rhythmic framework. With raw, seething power, Tagias builds intensity that pauses for breath at a haunting breakdown, drenched in reverbs, delays and the stunning motif central to “Echium”, before exploding into the third movement with shimmering effervescence and club-friendly groove.

The final remix sees another Meanwhile favourite enter the fray. An artist who has grown in stature with a slew of releases on the likes of onedotsixtwo, MNL and Proton Music, Sebastian Sellares hit the ground running in April 2021 with his “Dunes at Dawn” EP. This musical triptych showcased the Argentinian’s skill and artistry, while a remix of GMJ’s “Precipice” two months later was another label highlight. Working his production magic on “The Serpent”, Sebastian Sellares has found a way to illuminate the musical phrasing of the original while creating a spotlight that shines on an array of new production material, simultaneously driving the track forward with potent rhythmic force and effortless bassline presence. The result is a searing lead line, rooted in O’Rion’s original, that cuts its way through the second half with acetylene precision, perfectly illustrating Sellares’ sought-after production credentials.

Growing in stature with a trio of towering new remixes from Navar, Simos Tagias and Sebastian Sellares, Alex O’Rion blossoms once again with “Echium”.

It’s time to get some real attention right now as we bring on a massive release to the PHW roster. This time it’s pretty much filled with new names on our roster, and we are as excited as ever to deliver some truly fine music to all of you, coming from some of the hottest talents there are on the scene.

On original we are to see the Turkish duo behind the Progonia as a fresh influence on the label. With their lovely little musical piece called “Valeria”, the literally blew us away when showing this magical piece of music to us for the first time. With pounding bass lines, driving percussion and some amazing melodic work, they are to take you on a journey here that we do believe you all will get a crush on, no doubts on that.

On remix duty, we have one of our coolest line-ups so far, starting of with the undoubtedly super producer EDU. With support gained from all the major DJ’s in our genre over the past year, and working his music through great labels such as Monster Tunes, Black Hole, Macarize, Perfecto, Alter Ego and the list goes on, we are truly happy to see him joining us at PHW as well with his edgy rework of this Progonia original. With massive rolling chords, effective bass play and overall majestic textures and drive, he without a doubt delivers a superb remix for us here, and we couldn’t be happier than what we are, it’s top notch work as always from EDU!

The 2nd remix comes from the rising Russian talent, Piramex. For those of you who follow the scene, knows he has worked his music through both Alter Ego as well as winning the Blood Groove & Kikis remix competition through Silk. He definitely is a talented producer, and the young Russian is definitely one to watch. Here he brings a blend rework as he takes on this little beauty. With warm bass lines, lovely melodic work and and overall tasty atmosphere and texture, he spice our lifes up and bring a smile on our faces with this wonderful production. We couldn’t be happier than what we are, and we do feel this must be something for you as well if you are a PHW fan, awesome work!

The 3rd and final remix is from another heavy weight on the scene, as the prodigious talented production duo Deepshader & Nazca took the challenge for this track as well. We feel truly blessed to be able to have the guys in on the label, as we do believe they are one to watch of course. In a not to long spell, these hard workers also will make their debut album available but for now, you got to dig in on this massive re-take. With superb harmonies and groovy textures, the create something outstanding for us here. With clever effects, lovely synth riffs and overall an energy filled production, we believe that they will take the scene by storm with this one, no doubts on that.

Overall a fantastic release put together from some of the most talented producers we have around us, and it’s a pure pleasure having them all with us!

Onedotsixtwo continues to strike whilst the Progressive House iron is well and truly molten hot. Our 27th release bears the fruit of a magical meeting of minds, namely Australian favourite Matter & Sri Lanka's Prince of Prog, Dimuth K, with their Road to Stanton Moor EP.

Matty and Dim deliver two absolute belters for this release. The lead track 'Road to Stanton Moor' is a deep and throbbing builder with tight percussion and eerie effects layers that float in and out of the track, as it rockets towards a momentous breakdown that's guaranteed to send any dancefloor (or, right now, living room) sideways.

The AA side 'Exhale' packs a progressive punch in equal measure, built around beautifully crafted synth lines and infectious melodies with some serious low end rigour for late night moments. Exhale made its debut at Woodstock 69 in 2019, grace a our old friend Hernan Cattaneo, and it's been that elusive 'ID-ID' ever since, popping up in numerous sets from Hernan and Nick Warren since last summer.
