In the modern world of electronic music, running a label is no easy undertaking. The task requires a specific type of flexibility and finesse to maneuver through rapidly evolving landscapes, and because of this, often labels fall off as quickly as they begin. After five years steering the movement of multi-genre bass music, Gravitas Recordings has proven itself an anchor in the industry, even if success is not always measured in play counts or festival billing positions. 

As a label and artist collective, Gravitas has helped cultivate uncounted experiences for passionate music lovers across the world, and as a celebration of five years in this labor of love, the crew has released a compilation to honor a truly noteworthy milestone. The 34 track collection spans only a tiny corner of the label’s massive 100 album catalog, but still offers a healthy slice of the varied styles and artists that have collaborated with Gravitas over the years. New challenges will undoubted await the team in the years to come, but if the past is any indication, Gravitas Recordings will meet every obstacle with creativity and dedication for the foreseeable future.

We are thrilled to release this immersive sonic journey into the wild, which could be illanthropy's most impressive project to date. 'Headfirst' takes us deep into the potency of the human condition with its full-bodied sound, embodying the multifaceted journey of transitions and self-discovering changes that occur in our lives. This project spans across various genres and moods, ranging stylistically from deep UK-style dubstep to melodic, immersive pieces, even featuring a raunchy drum n bass tune. Overall, the project rounds out a deeply satisfying and meaningful listening experience, offering an opportunity to look inside yourself and feel what you need to feel.

Here is what Stephen Blasy, aka illanthropy, has to say about this new EP:

"For me, Headfirst was meant to emulate the crazy combination of simultaneous emotions one feels when going through a major transition in their lives. Those feelings of confusion, unsure of the next step because the next step is straight into the vast unknown. That moment of weakness where you try to convince yourself to sit tight in your complacency. That brief moment where you say FUCK IT and close your eyes, ready to jump without thinking about it. The seemingly surreal feeling of drifting in and out, straight down into something you've never experienced. I wanted to capture all of this, and really dive into my own emotions as I, myself, deal with major transitions and try my best to just "be myself" in every moment. A lot of this music is new for me, it's adventurous and unrelenting and doesn't care how you feel as it whips your mind around into unexplored territory. That's what I want people to feel when they listen, and when that last sonic bit tapers off at the end, I want people to feel more comfortable in their own skin, in their own mind, even if it's for just a moment. I feel like we are sharing that experience in that moment."
