My father passed away today 18th Feb 2022. The last few months were particularly hard for him and he just wanted to die.  This song is one of a few I wrote as catharsis. Sometimes we can live too long when quality of life has gone.

Not much I can do about the tragic events in Ukraine. I've decided that the aggressors can't appropriate the Z, so I'm taking it back in this metaphorical musical battle.

This is a tweaked master (for some of you this may be basics). I moved both the organ and vocal noisegate from last to first in the effects chain. This allows the effects such as delay to work and sound as intended. Also tried a saturator on the lead "high" vocal to make it stand out more in the mix. You will all let me know if this worked (it is most noticeable at the end where you can hear the organ fade out with the planned delay). On a side-note if anybody is interested in how the "sucking" effect is achieved on the drums it is using a combination of regular and reverse reverb.

Firstly being a song with traditional 6/4 signature, I redid the central section in 4/4 to add strength, same as with my previously posted song.

Also, I 'needed' to cut last quarter note out of the instrumental bridges and play them in 5/4.

After these artificialities, I tried a mild sound to please your ears ;)

Today Is What It Is

Project I-la-rI is a one-man experimental music project from Turku, Finland. The tunes are all original pieces composed by Ilari I. Rantala. The project began in 2015.

Hello my friends and welcome to my cloud! I play all the instruments in my music (unless noted otherwise in the song), sing, write the lyrics and deal with the aftermath myself. The tracks are recorded and produced with minimal equipment in my home, other places that are qualified as homes and in the field with a portable recorder.
